I don't know about you but I've lost what little interest I had in the race for the Labour leadership. Two brothers, Gordon Brown's pal, a left-left winger, a music enthusiast and Britain's first black female MP make up the list so far.
It's quite extraordinary that one of the main issues of the contest has become immigration - the subject which Labour refused to let anyone else discuss. They were right and those who wanted debate were wrong.
But now we have the Miliband brothers, Ed Balls and Andy Burnham all conceding that Labour failed to respond to the public's concern. Ed Balls has even admitted the Labour policy was damaging job prospects of unemployed British workers. I didn't hear a squeak from any of them when reports concluded that the immigration policy of the Blair/Brown years produced only a minimal economic benefit to the country.
Many immigrants were hard-working but with so many young people - estimates say around one million - on benefits and with no jobs, ways should have been found to get them into jobs first.
Andy Burnham says that during the election 'we had our fingers in our ears and our hands over our eyes' where immigration is concerned. Not only immigration Mr Burnham, the economy, and unnecessary wars are another two on a lengthy list.
For four MPs to change their stance so radically on one of the main general election issues shows me their lack of integrity. Thankfully I'm not a member of the Labour party so I don't have to decide who should be the next leader. If I did, the words 'none of the above' spring to mind.

The problem lies initially in the fact that it was deliberate Labour policy in the 1st place to flood the UK with immigration. it was not only a ploy for votes, to truly 'multi-culturalise' the country, but to stick 2 fingers up at the right.
They did it, and thought it'd all be forgotten about. But we are only 1 of 3 countries in the EU to have had uncapped levels of EU migration, with no sniff of support on the ground. I live near Peterborough - one of the worst affected areas in the UK. Believe me - life will never be the same again (and not for the better!)
But for these Labour candidates, to now come out after 13yrs and plead ignorance is absolutely appalling. They knew EXACTLY what they were doing - and have no remorse for it whatsoever.
Sorry to rant -but I'm outraged!

Interesting that an AS Economics paper yesterday required candidates to explain the relationship between immigration and unemployment. By their own account, new Labour would have scored an epic fail.
It may not rekindle interest in the contest (assuming you had any in the first place), but may I offer this as a spot of comic relief on the subject?

There are so many things they did wrong during the last thirteen years, yet the only thing they're even vaguely willing to discuss now is immigration - something which was forbidden whilst they were in power.
Anybody'd think they don't want to discuss the economy, money-wasting, crime, creeping criminalisation and petty laws, instant fines, civvies getting police powers etc. etc..
They are very cleverly controlling the agenda, yet again!
That would mean apologising Mrs R and they'll never apologise - not the left.

Immigration is just a useful fencepost to hang the jaikets on now.
If they had to fight the leadership explaining where they went wrong on the economy, tax, bloated state, survellaince state and so on they'd have to be arguing against their previous cabinet posts and stances on these issues.
None of them was immigration. Therefore immigration is no longer the elephant in the room.
That the tribal labour supporters can't ever criticise their leaders means they've now turned their entire lumpen mass into little Englanders.

Ah Shug, that's a great explanation. I never thought of it from that angle. Blank out one main issue when you're in government then use it in opposition.
