The EU Springs a Warming Surprise

Europe will introduce a surprise new plan today to combat global warming, committing Britain and the rest of the EU to the most ambitious targets in the world. The plan proposes a massive increase in the target for cutting greenhouse has emissions in this decade.

The EU is determined to press ahead with the cuts despite the financial problems many countries are facing. The plan would cost the EU an extra £33 billion a year by 2020 according to a draft of the Commission's communication leaked to The Times. The existing target of a 20% cut is already due to cost £48 billion.

The Commission's argument is:

'... the lower target has become much easier to meet because of the recession, which resulted in the EU’s emissions falling more than 10 per cent last year as thousands of factories closed or cut production. Emissions last year were already 14 per cent below 1990 levels.

It's appalling we are associated with an organisation which uses the loss of businesses as a reason to increase costs of a dubious science. The spin-off could well mean higher utility bills, carbon taxes on road fuel and other sources of emissions could be introduced to claw the money from the struggling public.

How much more will we accept before we protest about our membership of the EU?

I do not believe that for a single moment.

In any event UK already has its own laws committing us, foolishly, to the most darconian cuts anywhere in the world and I can't see France or Germany wanting to join us.

Follow the money.

This is just an excuse for extra Taxation.

This is the kind of saving the world stupidity, fostered by extreme junk science, promoted by a climate change scam of world wide proportions and totally outside the comprehension of those forcing it on us that will destroy the EU totally, and put us back in the dark ages.
One could say cynically, let them get on with it.
But if the problem is the humans, do they not realise that their logic shows that the solution is to get rid of all the humans.
Except for themselves, of course.

The whole thing is total madness by people in power who are totally out of control.

The same dubious science has closed pubs, clubs and bingo halls up and down the country, the smoking ban experiment. No matter how far these people go they still find cause to go further...much further.

Hello SR - I was about to email you but thought I'd look in here first :-) I also blogged on this and have had a response from someone who remembers a guest post from Mrs Dansk Pastry last year which ties in very neatly with this. Please can you find the links and post them or email me?

I can't see France or Germany being able to opt out banned. Mind you, I'll keep an eye on the German papers this week because there's sure to be comment. The Germans aren't happy chappies at the moment where the EU is concerned.

It is Joe, and it will hit the middle income folk most, plus those like me who don't claim benefits.

The money will go to keep the elite in comfort. A disgrace.

subrosa said...

They know they're out of control Apogee but they also know there's nothing anyone is doing about it.

subrosa said...

Aye BigYin, they have a long list and the smoking ban was just the beginning.

I understand from friends who have just been to Italy that they say the Italians appear to be disregarding the ban in many places.

I'll go and look now GV.

Links please.

Because, yet again, I have seen, or heard NOTHING about it HERE....IN GERMANY!

FT, both France and Germany are opposed to unilaterally increasing it to 30% but the EC is publishing a paper tomorrow.

Hope this helps.

Jings Furor, I don't have time at present to search for the links. I read German papers a few times a week that's all.

And I stick by my comment.

Very many thanks for the link GV. My readers will appreciate it.

The plan seems to be to impoverish the West by any means. They are already destroying businesses through over-regulation.

Just heard of a care home in the next town that went bust because installing the mandatory lifts and other equipment left them penniless.

P.S. That's a silly representation of Noah's Ark, which was actually half the length of the Titanic. (I know it's only a cartoon btw, but I'm sure many adults think that's what it looked like!)

subrosa said...

It is a daft representation I agree Stewart. In fact the ark was possible flat like a raft. I agree many adults think that's what it looks like. Apologies for selecting it but I was trying to lighten the serious content of the post.

How sad that businesses are going to the wall with so much over-regulation. I can't see that stopping though can you?

Goodnight Vienna

Your link led to

"The website declined to show this webpage" W.T F. ?

subrosa said...

I got it banned, but it's in German with no English translation I can see.

In a nutshell it says Germany and France intended to put a stop to it yesterday then it goes on to explain much the same as the Times article did for us on Tuesday.

What is said in newspapers, and what I hear in the locker room at work, in friends and families houses, and in pubs are two entirely different things.

I repeat, the German public are NOT talking about this. They have UTTERLY no interest, at least here in Berlin.

The closest I got to an "answer" was "Oh, aye. I think I read something about it in the newspaper." And THAT was IT, TOTALY!

You Brits seem to be obsessed with the E.U, and like the idiot in the pub that after been told five times "I am not the slightest bit interested in a shower of queers playing with their balls (I.E "sport" but PARTICULARLY football"), insists that "Oh but you MUST be interested!! What team do you support?" you just find it impossible to believe that the rest of Europe could not GIVE a shit about the E.U.

It is NOT talked about at work, in the pub, on the train, in the "Vereine", or even in the house among friends and family.

subrosa said...

We certainly have friends from different ends of the spectrum Furor. My German friends are concerned about the EU these days and do talk about it. Fair enough I'm not presently in Germany but we correspond often. Their friends also discuss it along with their benefits system and immigration. Some of my friends are still in business and are forever complaining about EU red tape.

I don't think people talk about the EU in pubs here either but that doesn't mean to say they're not interested.

To call us obsessed is rather insulting. Interested may be a better description.

Furor Teutonicus said...

As I pointed out, I mentioned MORE than just in pubs.

NO ONE IS TALKING ABOUT IT HERE!

Be it Berlin, Brandenburg, Mekcklenburg-Vorpommern, Sachsen, Sachsen Anhalt, Niedersachsen, Schleswig Holstein, or Nordrhein Westfalia.

All places I have been to in the last month, and Berlin is where I live.

In fact the none issue is SO unimportant, that except for maybe a paragrah in the election blurb, it was not even mentioned at the recent elections in Nordrhein Westfalia!

Plus, compared to the coverage of the non issue here, and what it gets in the U.K, the Brits ARE obsessed with the E.U. Just look at how many times per week it is the subject on blog sites.

subrosa said...

I accept that in your social arena nobody is concerned in the least about the EU Furore, whether your arena is in Germany or any other country.

Regularly I have contact with Germans and as I said the EU, the benefits system and immigration are regular talking points.

We'll have to agree to differ. I didn't see the election blurp for Nordrhein Westfalia so I can't comment, although I can say that article GV linked to in the Faz section of the Frankfurter Allgemeine isn't exactly a random paragraph. I could link to many others in other German daily papers but they don't have the facility of English translation and therefore, for my non-German speaking readers, they would be useless.

Everything from the lads in the pub, to a company director, two University proffessors a couple of doctors, and EVEN a couple of the party "heierachy" fom Berlin and Brandenburg, from various political parties. (CDU, REP, Greens, and FDP.)

Regularly I have contact with Germans

So do I. In fact I do NOT talk to any one who is NOT German. I do not KNOW anybody here, that is not German.

WHAT a surprise hay? (And yes that WAS sarcasm).

subrosa said...

Auch that's a shame for you Furor. I had friends who were Austrians, Swiss, Italians and Germans when I lived there.

Stewart Cowan said...

I don't blame you for the pic, SR. The Ark was a three-tier ship.

subrosa said...

Stewart, not so long ago I read the ark would possibly have been a large open raft. I'll see if I can find the site, but I'm not promising.
