'That' Elvis Appearance Could Cost £20,000

Remember this rather weird appearance of an Elvis impersonator at a Labour photo call?

Alistair Campbell organised the presence of The Pelvis (aka Mark Wright) at Lodge Park Technology College in Corby, thinking it would boost Gordon Brown's election campaign.

Now Corby borough council is investigating whether the performance at the weekend breached the Licencing Act. The college is not allowed to permit performances of live music before 6pm.

Corby council has contacted the head teacher, Tom Waterworth, to demand an explanation.

Under the Act, Campbell, as organiser, and Waterworth, the licence holder, could face criminal prosecution resulting in six months in prison or a £20,000 fine.

The college was unable to get a Temporary Event Notice authorising the performance of music, as plans to allow last-minute event notices were withdrawn by the Goverment this month.

Ouch!

Now OR, you're far too quick for me this morning. :)

But how appropriate - Gordon is about to leave the building.

He he. I thought it was rather amusing myself - the fact that Campbell was the organiser.

Did he sing "A little less conversation"? Personally, I prefer "Return to Senga".

Auch Brownlie, what have you got against Senga?

It is sad though in a way how this country has been a place where to play a radio on in your shop, have someone sing for 20 minutes on your premises, or just about anything that you would think could add a little to everyday life needs permits, licences authorisation and authorities stamp of approval "to allow" you to do something.

Was it last year when a 30 year local BBQ and family event had to be cancelled as they were told in future they would have to now buy a Gas BBQ, have a entertainment licence and Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA)vetting for all organisers.

Seems the country is almost a Police state in all but name.

It is very sad G and many will agree with you. Every corner of our lives is now covered by legislation. Freedom has been erased in many ways.

Could we not fine Gordon Brown
£20K for pretending to be a prime minister?
