Afghanistan - The Rising Toll

Three more of our soldiers, two from the 2nd Batallion The Rifles and the third from 40 Regiment Royal Artillery were killed in Helmand Province this morning.

This bring the death toll of those killed in action to 199.

May their family, friends and colleagues manage the deep pain such tragedy brings from this unnecessary war.

Earlier today the bodies of four British soldiers killed in Afghanistan earlier this month were flown back to RAF Lyneham in Wiltshire. Wootton Bassett paid their quiet respects as they have done for every coffin returned.

All the time they are using the Defense procurement agency as a tool to safeguard jobs in the party homelands, this is going to continue.

Why are we buying the new Lynx helicopter for double(or more), when we could buy american blackhawks now? A tried and tested Helo that can hold more troops and is better armed and protected.

Why have we continued with Eurofighter Typhoon (A cold war throwback), when we could have the american F18, IMO a superior aircraft? At far less cost

I could go on but you know the story, politicians aren't in the real world.

My answer is to send them to Helmand province, all 646 of them, as "The First battalion of the UK despoilers", and see how they whine then.

Hopefully we'll need a lot of Hercs to bring the bodies back.

Then again, that would be a waste of fuel.

If you watch PMQ's, as I do, you will have seen politician after politician lament the sad loss of XXXXXXX, killled in XXXXXXX

Unless I have missed something - anyone ever seen one of these 'politicians' - who 'lament' the loss - at a Wootton Bassett 'event'?

Sadly it's becoming a regular occurence 'three soldiers in one day'. How families of serving soldiers must dread the ring of the phone!!

And do the government apologise for wasting young lives? No, Bob Bloody Ainsworth blames the UK and calls us defeatist.

Sack them on voting day in disgust.

People are dispensible Filthy Engineer, especially if it ensure the 'great and good' of the UK are ensured a neat little job with an obscene salary once they pack in the 'public service' they say they undertake.

They sicken me, each and every one of them who voted for the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

WW, I don't think a senior government representative has ever made an appearance but I'd be happy to be proved wrong.

Lancs it must be a horrible feeling, especially when you hear the news first on radio or TV then the phone rings.

I've noticed the media now always make a point of saying 'the families have been informed' before the news gets into our main media.

VotR, I just read that on Filthy Engineer's site. It takes me all my time to read the man's nasty ramblings.

VotR, I mean Ainsworth's ramblings - not FE's. Just to clarify.

Certain vested interests aided by compliant and complicit politicians consider this Afghan and many other 'wars' - necessary - to bring in the money from the spoils of commercial imperialism. Especially when they need to get in first before Russia or China beats them to it? It's in their interests to exploit (even aggitate) religious intolerance, to support the drug trade, play up cultural differences, fabricate threat and fear to manipulate excuses for war and its collateral business opportunities.
This ploy and travesty of pretending to protect us from terrorism from distant "crucibles" while we cannot mount the resources to detect and defuse homegrown problems makes a fool of our own democracy.
The deaths, injuries and trauma suffered by our armed forces and their families is a shocking price to pay for Big Business to get bigger with the fawning collusion of our elected Labour government. Necessity may be the mother of invention but it is too often the mother of wars.

I wonder when Mandy and Broon start work with the Carlyle Group?

The man's delusional, they all are, and no nothing but smears and deceit. Ainsworth, Brown, Mandy, Darling, Balls, Harm Man, Bliar, the usual suspects.

I really hate this business. When I cheered our troops home, in Hereford, http://oldrightie.blogspot.com/2009/07/welcome-home.html

I was genuinely thrilled they had survived. Since then The Taliban have posted over 20 grisly statements of intent. Ainsworth's reply, "You Brits are disgusting not to back Labour to the hilt of their decadent war".
Subrosa, these soldiers dying are, as always, our creme de la creme. Is this Labours' motive?
I was told when I began my blog, I should not call it "I hate Labour". I acquiesced, I begin to regret that.

We're been pedaled the latest 'fear' story now Clarinda, with Bob Ainsworth saying today that the public weren't supporting the war enough and thus implying the public were being disloyal to our military. Of course, he hasn't made a good job of it, more of a hash really.

But Brown and his cohorts won't give up because they're tied in the the US, world bankers et al. None cares for the wellbeing of their fellow man, whem they are quite happy to sacrifice to gain their aims.

No idea scunnert, I'll see if I can find something about them.

subrosa said...

Will it be much better with a Tory government though VotR?

Oldrightie I for one am pleased you didn't call it 'I hate Labour' if only for the reason that hate is such a wasting emotion.

You more than make up for the omission of it in your title with the eloquence of your posts. :)
