The Community Spirit

The children of Kuinerrarmiut Elitnaurviat 5th Grade spent 10 hours of one of their weekends making this video for their local community.

Quinhagak (ref. Wiki) is in Alaska and the city had a population of 555 according to the 2000 census. Then there were 137 households and 113 families residing in the city. It's main income is commercial fishing and a cannery.

Most households still practice subsistence hunting and gathering.

The weather today in Quinhagak is -22 degrees but feels like -32 degrees and probably it was similar when the video was made.

The children must have known it would be very cold outside when they decided to record the video for their families and friends but they were undeterred.

Of course they will be accustomed to such a climate but I do admire their spirit and the fact that, although it was a school project, the filming took place outside school hours.  Would that happen here?  No. There would have been months of Health and Safety risk assessments and various permissions required before recording could begin.

The 'modern' UK may have gained a more comfortable lifestyle for many, but we've also lost attributes which will never return.

What Will This Woman Do Next?

Sarah Palin and her husband Todd are to divorce. A National Enquirer story exposing previous affairs on both sides led to a deterioration of their marriage and the stress from that led to Palin's resignation as governor of Alaska.

She has recently purchased land in Montana and is considering moving the family there.

Is this the end of Sarah Palin's bid for the White House or just the beginning?
