No One Mentions The Losses Do They

The following is a comment left by Apogee on this post. I thought it worth posting in case anyone missed it.

'Hi SR. Al Gore again. How I wish that I had thought of that scam, I'd be rich.

This will never work because to work it needs a means of storing electric power in BULK INDUSTRIAL QUANTITIES. There IS NO large Industrial Storage means for electricity, about the largest batteries commonly used are for BACKUP POWER for telephone exchanges, and they can cover the area of a tennis court, and that's for a couple of hours until they get the diesel generators on line.

Why do you think commerce is in steam or diesel powered ships, because of reliability and you can drive a much bigger ship. Ever seen a 50000 ton sail powered cargo ship? and you won't. Wind power is inherently unreliable, read about the old clipper ships, look at the life on them for the crews,it was hard. And that was the best that could be done with wind power. As soon as the wind stopped, you stopped.

Handbook of Homemade Power. Get a copy from the library or buy a copy, read it fully and you will understand why alternative power can be used for a farm or even a big property, but look at the amount of power your house uses, and then tell me how you would power it by alternatives, and then scale it up to power a small town and tell me how THAT would work. And cost. And remember that all large scale storage is direct current and all your houses use alternating current. Any one with ideas I would like to hear, because I think before long we may need some!

I am not going into the losses on transmission lines, typically 30% on a long line, but would you run your car if it lost that, remember you car loses at least 10 % when you use air conditioning and another 10 % with an automatic gearbox. No one mentions losses, do they.'

Carbon Man To Visit Scotland

Global warming campaigner - now calling himself a climate change campaigner - and former US vice-president Al Gore is to be the keynote speaker at the Scottish Low Carbon Investment Conference (SLCIC) which will take place in Edinburgh this September.

The event is described as a leading international forum for emerging renewable energy and other low carbon markets. The cost of the conference will be mainly met by the taxpayer ie the Scottish government and Scottish Enterprise.

Fancy attending? The bargain price for the two day bash, including refreshments and lunch, is £495+VAT but if you want to splash out and join the 'exclusive drinks reception' and dinner that will set you back £645+VAT.

Whilst I applaud the use of natural resources to create energy, I have no time for Mr Gore and his carbon scam.  Why should anyone believe his environmental rhetoric about reducing our use of energy when he uses more than 20 times the US national average in his own home?

Only recently Fergus Ewing, the Scottish government's energy minister, stated the Scottish government was 'perfectly open' to the continued use of Hunterston and Torness power stations to ensure there was security of supply.  This statement had the usual suspect, FoE Scotland, foaming at the mouth, but it was welcomed by those with common sense.

Where energy policies are concerned I have to agree with this man, although Scotland did address the issue well before Westminster.

Forget Big Oil the New World Power is Big Carbon

Al Gore, the man who invented carbon emissions. It wasn't so long ago Mr Gore and his Gorelets were telling us if we wanted to fly anywhere then we would have to buy carbon offsets, preferably from a Government Approved scheme. It was also suggested that we walk more often, use public transport instead of driving and turning down your thermostat at home. This obviously only applies to city folks because in rural areas public transport leaves a great deal to be desired and sensible people heat their homes to a temperature which ensure the occupiers are comfortable.

Now all this is unravelling. The air's out of the bag and the bag's deflating, yet Gore and his Gorelets are backing stiffer pan-globe governmental legislation on carbon emissions.

No wonder this man's smiling. He is Dr Rajendra Pachauri, the part-time head of the IPCC.
Richard North continues his excellent research into Climategate and shows us what a tight-knit set-up the selling of air has become.

James Delingpole is one of the few journalists who has spoken out against climate change, particularly since the leak of the UEA emails and documents. His Telegraph article today also addresses the Big Carbon Scam Corus have used against the NE of England. It is a worthwhile read.

If anyone had said to me 20 years ago that the ultimate non-product of carbon trading would be the biggest scam of the 21st century I would have thought them mad. Yet it has happened. Just in European terms, the European Climate Exchange (ECX) and Bluenext accounted for 92% of exchange-traded EU carbon permits and so far in 2009, the value of the carbon permits traded through both exchanges is €86,304,050,227 or €364,547,223 a day.

The irony of it all is, as James Hansen admits, this money making 'business' will have no overall effect on emission levels, but it's not intended to. As Richard North states "This is a money-making scam on a colossal scale, a confidence trick perpetrated in plain sight, giving endless opportunities to rip off the public."
