Useless Fact

Unless you live another 88 years of course!

Well seeing as the year is actually 2012 and none of these 'significant' dates actually exist, thank goodness!

Now if those yanks could get around to putting numeric dates in the 'right' order, that might be worth celebrating!

Rats! I should have waited until 12:12 to post.

Oh the significance!

Does this mean we are all doomed? It depends on your base year. Why don't we all just change the base years every so often to ensure this never happens again? The government ought to do something.

I have to admit American websites, with their reversed date, have caught me out more often than I care to say Jim. :)

I should have posted it at 12.12 too.

Indeed Demtrius, legislation ought to be rushed through immediately.

We could have a year that never was - and immediately claim a tax rebate.

Recession solved!

Great idea Crinkly!!

Well, look at it this way... It is the one date this century when we are all writing it the same way. ;-)

Oh Crinkly, careful with broadcasting your ingenious ideas …

Some ‘jobs-worth’ at the tax office is probable reading your comments now.
I can see the letter that's heading your way…

Dear Mr Crinkly

As you have not submitted the appropriate tax return for the year that never was, we find that rather than consider you for a rebate for that year, we must charge you a full twelve months of tax in respect of non-payment for the year that never was, plus an additional penalty charge for failing to lodge an appropriate tax return for said year.

In short , Sir – geez yur money.

Yours
The Tax Man
12/12/12 or if you are American 12/12/12

Very true Jeanne! I wonder how it came about that America decided to put the month first?

JRB - to which I reply.

Dear Mr Taxman, thank you for your prompt demand.

The cheque is in the coffin.

Yours!

Crinkly

An interesting question, Rosie. I suspect it is because we SAY it the wrong way around. forms come form speech. Brits say 'the thirteenth of December', hence 13/12/12. Americans say 'December thirteenth', hence 12/13/12.

Of course we do a number of things a bit backwards from the rest of the world:
-We don't use metric measures.
-We don't use Celsius temperatures.
-We don't use a sensible way of expressing the date (since it makes much more sense for the day to come first to my mind).

But no one ever accused Americans of being sensible (our delusions to the contrary notwithstanding LOL)

Ah Jeanne, a simple explanation I should have know myself. Thank you.

I think your first two 'backwards' points are very sensible and wish it was still the same here. So confusing here these days as I'm sure you know.
