Another Sad Day for the Mercian Regiment
Pte Matthew Haseldin, from Settle in North Yorkshire, had only been in the Army a few months when he was killed on Thursday in Nahr-e Saraj District, Helmand province, Afghanistan.
He belonged to the 2nd Battalion, the Mercian Regiment and was only 21 years old and joined up in February this year and was deployed to Afghanistan in September.
His battalion is responsible for keeping open Route 611, which is a key supply route linking Gereshk city with other district centres in Helmand province and beyond, including Kandahar City.
Pte Haseldin's death takes the total number of service personnel killed in this unwinnable war to 384.

That's 384 too many who have died in America's war on idealogy
How quietly this further loss of life was handled. Lost in the screams of those bankrupt politicians.
I always read this blog because it gives you a running total of the dead in these ridiculous wars without any hysteria. I have never commented before but I am just so angry when I read about the proposed attacks on Iran that I have to. This was all planned, it is a matter of record, there is an agenda here & it has got fuck all to do with the defence of the realm. How many more people are going to die. This just has to stop.
Keeping nations at war is an old strategy for making sure that your people don't look at the enemy within. One could hope that in a modern age it would stop working.
There will be many more Dioclese when the Americans go ahead with their attack upon Iran.
It was OR. Took the MoD long enough to announce it. Was a soldier's personal blog which alerted me.
There's no point in hysteria Observer. All I want to do is honour these men and their families quietly. They're often forgotten and even one death can affect so many.
As for Iran, well, I do think it's on the cards. Will we publicly protest? I certainly would. We don't need to be American's stool pigeon.
Unfortunately no Jeanne. Just the other day Cameron is quoted as saying he's right behind any decision America makes.
