Poll Results

Sir Paul Stephenson
ex-Metropolitan Police Commissioner
prior to his resignation

The result of the poll asking 'Who will be the next head of the Met?' was:

Stephen House -  13%
Hugh Orde -  5%
Bernard Hogan-Howe - nil
Tim Godwin -  nil
None of those who applied -  82%
Total votes:  113

There's a message in there somewhere to those who oversee the Metropolitan Police force. It will be ignored of course because the present culture is too deeply embedded.

A few weeks ago I fleetingly thought the phone hacking scandal would have had a strong enough effect to cause change within the organisation, but now the issue has been dropped by the MSM, the braided and overpaid will resume 'normal' service. Sighs of relief all round within the upper echelons of the Met no doubt.

The interesting thing is the number of potential candidates who did not apply. When the post became vacant most papers gave a list of possible candidates and our Thames Valley Chief Constable Sara Thornton looked like being one of the leading contenders, possibly to become the first female commissioner. I note she had more sense than to apply!
Personally, I think the Met should be split, and all the national activities such as anti-terrorism, Diplomatic/Royal protection and the like put in the hands of a separate organisation in a similar manner to the US Secret Service. The Met could then concentrate on being an ordinary police force and police London like any other provincial force.

I thought Sir Hugh would have got more votes. He showed great initiative with his home made interview suit. Most folk would have just gone to Burtons or Markies and asked for something smart and authoritive..

I would agree with a division EP. The Met certainly needs to return to policing for the safety of Londoners and stop the 'big business' approach.

Ha, RM, you saw that too? Honestly I didn't know whether to laugh or cry at the stupidity and pomposity of the man.
