My Choice
The first movement of Beethoven's 5th Symphony holds a special place in my heart. It was the first piece I ever played - as a member of the Dundee Schools' Orchestra - to the paying public and I was overawed by the rapt sea of faces sitting to my left in Dundee's grand Caird Hall. It was a historic evening for a 10-year-old and one I frequently remember with delight. The composition has a mixture of assertiveness, empathy and romance; all delicately balanced to perfection.
There is no record of the orchestra or conductor but it could be the Berliner Philharmoniker. It produces a crisp sound such as this.

A great choice SR. Five features as my favourite symphony and piano concerto too - the latter is just awesome!

Demetrius, erm... I don't think my childhood Director of Music would have allowed that to pass for concert standard. :)
But it brought back happy memories of initial rehearsals.
Niko, have patience. I do have another life to live you know. :)
