An Ineffectual Woman

After reading Delphius' post last night I realised I thought much the same, although when she was talking on Sky, my mind was more on cooking.  David Cameron did speak on television later but, as Del asks, where was our Foreign Secretary?

It this a slow and deliberate takeover of our foreign policy by the EU or is it a desperate bid by Cathy Ashton to build up her media profile?  Or both?

The woman is disliked by her peers.  She says she intends to visit Egypt as soon as possible, but they don't want her.  Her recent article in the Guardian was rightly mocked.

Until the Egyptians ask for our advice we should leave them alone and allow the people to develop their own style of democracy. I wish them well.  It will be a long, grinding road.

It's all part of the drip drip, Subrosa. It will end in tears even if 30 years hence!

I wish I could be around to see it OR, but I doubt if it will happen that quickly.

Sorry SH. I was going to put a wee note at the beginning saying don't read immediately after food. :)

If you see a brawl going on and it is not clear who is likely to win it is better to stay well clear. Sadly it is a lesson that our politicians have yet to learn.

Perhaps she's intending visiting Egypt to find out first-hand how the electorate dispose of hated politicians?

Looking at the survey her colleagues certainly don't have much regard for her Demetrius.

Rumour has it that she's in line for the 'off' in summer. We shall have to wait and see.

They don't want her Joe and I don't think, no matter how much her office pushes it, that they'll let her in to do her patronising bit.

Yuk. A woman who has never been elected to anything, gets to lecture the Arabs on democracy.

FFS.

Anyonw worked out at whom Obama's speech was aimed?

1. Egyptians
2. Americans
3. The World
4. History.

I can't put my finger on it, but it gave me the creeps; I think there was a sense that America were claiming that what has happened in Egypt was something to do with them?

Anyone?

I have some experience of Egypt - working there as opposed to holidays and have witnessed many changes in that country.

The anger of the the man on the Giza omnibus directed towards the ruling elite pocketing the country's treasury and using the proceeds to monopolise most business over a certain size is what I understand to be driving this. All outside the elite are kept in near penury.

The Americans pouring in billions at the top has only stoked the inequalities and the abyss between the rulers and the ruled.

Foreign policy? This bint going to Cairo to help sort it out? ooh yeah, there's a good idea.

I'd like to think the Egyptians know an unelected, overpaid, inept apparat-chick when they see one and I hope sincerely that they give her a suitable welcome.

And Hague has meekly taken second fiddle to this ? We are doomed I tell you, doomed.

A collection of stuff about egypt that you are unlikely to see in the MSM over at aagrifan's place

Not all of which aligns with what I've seen I have to say.

Interesting comment Gordon. The Americans also stoked the uprising I understand, along with others.

Aangirfan is one of my must reads. She acquires information others never read.

This is worth a quick listen skip to 20 minutes in and have a listen to Jeffrey Robinson

Ms Ashton I would hazard a guess, is utterly out of her depth - I hope she can't swim.

She is and it's so obvious Gordon. I missed Eddie Mair tonight so thanks for the link, otherwise I wouldn't have heard it.
