Who Says AGW Isn't a Religion?

"What shall we do with the climate sceptics if they won't shut up?" ask the Sea Green Singers.  One of their solutions is: "Put them in the desert and ration their water", while another is: "Lock them in a room with nothing but money, see what good it does them".  Richard has another of their solutions - a quite horrifying one.

Who said AWG isn't a religion?  Whoever decided to upload this video maybe thought it was amusing. It's not.  I respect - although not necessarily agree with - anyone's opinion and their right to state it, but to advocate, and promote, violence to silence your opponents is several steps too far.

If I had more time I'd be tempted to write a seasonal carol in response.  Naturally it would include the meaning of Christmas.  Peace, goodwill and love to your fellowman.  Values the Sea Green Singers appear to have forgotten.

The government, as ever, is keen to ensure voices discussing AWG are silenced if they don't like what's said.  Fortunately one newspaper has published information from Britain's most experienced Arctic researcher.  "Forget about global warming - what most forecasters have failed to acknowledge is that Britain is on the cusp of a mini ice age," he says.  He admits global warming is fact globally but it's not fact in northern Europe. "Last year was the 14th coldest winter in Britain in 350 years yet globally it was the fifth warmest taken as an average across the planet."

Evidence is beginning to emerge slowly but the winter boots you may get from Santa could well turn out to be a good investment.

A rather over-the-top reaction to a light hearted little ditty, subrosa.

Far from the global warming sceptics being silenced, they are highly vocal and heavily funded by the indistries that are busy profiting from the destruction of our planet. The trotting out of the occasional scientific sceptic is similar to the kind of scientists that were found to say the cigarettes smoking didn't cause lung cancer.

The weight of scientic evidence of man-made contribution to global warming is massive and is as close to a consensus as science ever gets.

Yes, there are other opinions - but there is opinion and there is informed opinion.

Cui bono? We know who benefits from trying to ignore the evidence - the oil companies, the polluters, the despoilers of the environment.

Look at their murderous activities over generations before trying to suggest that a little sea shanty is a threat to anyone.

I don't think so Moridura. Then again, like the 10:10 issue I don't believe that violence is the answer to anything. I'm sure they could have made their point far more effectively without including it.

Cigarette smoking does NOT cause lung cancer but it can contribute to it. I'm surprised you actually believe that. Only this week I had a note within a Christmas card from very old friends and it tells me that their elder son, one of Britain's top dental surgeons, was found to be suffering from lung and liver cancer. They are obviously extremely distressed and say 'He has never smoked or drunk alcohol. He drank only orange juice at his wedding'. They too, until now, believed only 'dirty' smokers could contact lung cancer. They wanted to believe the propaganda.

While I agree with your comment about the despoilers, do you honestly believe that, with giving more and more of my hard-earned money away in the name of 'green taxes' that the likes of India and China will stop despoiling the planet?

Of course they won't. They'll continue to take our money and continue merrily on their way. You see, they're much much more powerful than Britain. We're just a wee island which used to have sensible ideas. And yes, the global companies will continue as they are - making excessive profits from the subsidies given to them under the colour of green.

“NIWA makes the huge admission that New Zealand has experienced hardly any warming during the last half-century. For all their talk about warming, for all their rushed invention of the “Eleven-Station Series” to prove warming, this new series shows that no warming has occurred here since about 1960. Almost all the warming took place from 1940-60, when the IPCC says that the effect of CO2 concentrations was trivial. Indeed, global temperatures were falling during that period.

“The new temperature record shows no evidence of a connection with global warming. Since that’s the reason this tempest in a teacup has brewed in the first place, it should simmer down now.”

Actually, Warmism is already legally a "belief" alongside other religions:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1224961/Green-views-religion-environmentalist-wins-claim-sacked-beliefs.html

Does that mean we can burn them at the stake now the eco-fascists have been successfully outed as liars, charlatans, hypocrites, profiteerers and pseudo-scientific frauds?

The Sea Green Singers can hardly be classified as a group of jolly smiling choristers. They are an extreme, politically motivated, group of activists.

As the say on their website, they are singing in solidarity with people trying to change the world. Their rendition of the Internationale is classic - and available for download from their website.

This is no light hearted little ditty, as with everything else this group does, this carries a strong, and unpleasant, political message.
No doubt they would argue that ”SS Marschiert” was just a little marching ditty for soldiers to sing.

Like so many in this highly emotive ‘climate’ argument, the Sea Green Singers have their own one sided and biased opinion.

Please note, I refrain from describing this ‘climate’ debacle as a scientific debate. Reasoned scientific discussion went out the window some time ago.

Thanks or the link KBW. Unfortunately I don't think the AGW lobbies will simmer down. There's too much money still to be drained from the population.

Auch ASE, I don't believe in violence. Maybe a few weeks clearing the paths of fragile pensioners would be a better, and more productive, result.

Morning John. Well said.

I've had a couple of emails from folk this morning who are upset at this choir being allowed to spread their political message within an obviously religious building.

Can't help agree that reasoned debate, and evidence, is no longer. As the Arctic chap says he's not permitted funding.

Surely, if Moridura is to be believed, some of these global companies who are hell bent on destroying the planet, would be throwing money at the man.

I had no idea what AGW was - so I had to look it up. Take your pick -

AGW Anthropogenic Global Warming
AGW Anti-Global Warming
AGW Access Gateway
AGW Atmospheric Gravity Waves
AGW Art Gallery of Windsor (Ontario, Canada)
AGW All Going Well
AGW Accelerated Global Warming
AGW Actual Gold Weight
AGW Application Gateway (telecom)
AGW Alt.Games.Warbirds (forum)
AGW A Girl's World (online magazine)
AGW Actual Gross Weight
AGW American Wire Gauge
AGW Automatic Girth Welder
AGW Autonomous Guided Weapon
AGW Allowable Gross Weight
AGW Anganwadi Worker (India)
AGW Accident Generated Water

'All Going Well' seemed unlikely...

They've been parodied too:

Some of their other songs - available as mp3s on their website and as videos on their youtube page - are just as bad: they have a 'green song' which goes over the same ground.

It's a free country - at the moment -but what was that "Equality Law" Harriet Harman pushed through - something to do with erm, it being illegal to offend?

Hmmm...

"We're convinced of the rightness of our beliefs" hectoring, sloganeering and cavorting around in public is indeed the stuff of cultism and many folk are quite partial to it, it seems. I think they could do fancy dress costume like these smarmy berks.

I wonder if they're enjoying the oxygen of some small attention? I haven't seen a response yet...

@Moridura
do trot off and do a little research rather than copy n pasting from Guardian CiF comments eh?

Samizdata Blog

how true...

Cold weather is now officially anti-left in its political orientation. So, on this issue, we here can either be warm, or correct. Take your pick. Personally I'm still mulling it over. The lefties will either be, against all current trends, warm and right, or will shiver and be wrong.

I blame the Global Warming "experts" for the present dire situation with regards to the roads, railways and airports.
As I mentioned in my own blog, what council or company is going to invest money in snow clearance equipment when all the experts are telling us it's a thing if the past?

So blame those who have forced AGW onto us, and all those gullible enough to believe them.

Billy Carlin said...

Actually when it comes to global warming I tend to ignore both sides of the argument because as far as I am concerned both sides have their agenda.

Unless there is facts presented by scientists independent of companies and governments then it will be hard to get the true story. Companies and governments will use any excuse to rip the people off from their money. Then again there is good advert going round just now that speaks volumes about most of the AGW people - You are not stuck in traffic, you are traffic. The same sort of mentality.

Funny your comment about advocating and promoting violence in order to silence your opponents being several steps too far and them being in a Christian church which did exactly that by murdering tens of millions of people for not coverting from their pagan religions to the one the Christians copied from theirs. The words bigot, cretin and idiots came from the pagan descriptions of Christians.

subrosa said...

I don't think it's A Girl's World either Dioclese. :)

subrosa said...

Thanks for that purdie. I don't know whether they deserved the effort.

I did listen to one other piece. Don't think it does the green lobby much favours but each one to their own.

subrosa said...

Don't know about costumes Gordon, but I find it strange that a choir has no requirement such as a singing voice.

Auch now, Moridura is entitled to his opinion. Be kind.

subrosa said...

I'm possibly what you would call a centrist on this issue Gordon. I've no doubt warming is happening globally but what the pro-science lobby forgot to say is that we were entering a mini ice age.

My cynicism tells me that the lack of information could be purposeful. After all, why panic folk too much when they're heating bills will be soaring anyway.

subrosa said...

The science has been out there for some time EP but government has ensured it was not publicised. See my above remark to Gordon.

subrosa said...

Billy, we'll never get the truth. As you say both sides are funded by various large organisations/governments.

I was referring to the church in modern day Billy. I'm sure you know my opinion of religion and the pain and suffering it can cause, as well as comfort and peace to some.

Rosie , the exasperating thing about the way this debate is progressing is the political polarisation of the camps - it's bonkers. Haven't they heard of Canute?

The "left" have taken up the AGW banner as a flag to wave on their hobby horse, the right feel the need to contradict the left - and round and round we go in a wasteful pretty pointless spiral.

The actual science/observation/analysis doesn't get looked at in a rigorous manner and comes in a very poor second.Repeatability and accuracy are almost entirely absent from much of the discussion - anecdotes about Monbiot's Welsh potatoes are given as much credence as meteorologists of considerable track record - and track record is important.

Some stuff said on both sides is plain bonkers but on balance I think nobody could dispute that the doom mongers their herd of opportunistic fellow travellers are making the most noise. And, sad to say - the squeaking wheels are accumulating some grease.

The stifling of public debate is embarrassing and it's the anglophone world that's leading the way in this with their mostly deeply stupid and political dogma compromised media. The science establishment and their political masters have a lot to answer for in this matter.

If I stood in public and sang a hate song against ethnic minorities, people pf other religions or homosexuals and lesbians, I would be swiftly arrested and charged with a ‘hate crime’. Surely they too have committed a hate crime against others who do not hold the same unfounded beliefs as them – they should be arrested and charged.

subrosa said...

The lack of open debate is very obvious Gordon and the politicians want those who are sceptical silenced.

Of course if you 'follow the money' then it all comes clear.

We were spun a story which the storytellers knew would make them billions. It has and they want it to continue 'for the good of the planet'.

Only when people's wallets are hit harder will they start to take a serious look at the evidence. Meanwhile, I still object to paying higher taxes and utility bills while India, China and the US continue to pour out pollution.

subrosa said...

Yes indeed Derek. People have been arrested for far less such as taking photos of their children in a school parade.
