Every Little Helps

There was an amusing editorial in the SoS this week in which it's reported research from a study of 12 billion landline telephone calls in Scotland over a month show that only 23.3% of incoming and outgoing calls were to other parts of the UK, compared with Wales, where the figure was 50%.

The research was carried out by Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cornell University and University London.  That wouldn't have been a cheap project.

However, the interesting part of the report stated: 'The researchers suggest their findings show that secession from the UK could be much less disruptive for Scots than for the Welsh'.

Another small step on the road to independence. Every little helps.

Maybe more Scots use mobiles.*

The number of Scots in England, especially London, is equal to, if not more than, the Welsh. I'd take this research with a large dose of sodium chloride.

* Sometimes people don't see the simple explanation from their research. A few years ago, the press reported Japanese researchers attributing intelligence to drinking wine with every meal. Of course, the fact the Japanese were eating sushi as well was overlooked...

When are you going to realise that there is NO SUCH thing as an Independant state.

I'll bet you they never counted the pigeons.

It was intended as rather a light-hearted post William but with a message. :)

Highland Cooncil, when I say independence I mean a nation which can deal with its own affairs. A little like Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Sweden, Norway...

Nor Skype users RA. Many of my friends have bought computers purely for email and Skype. They're not interested in much more.

After all, if you have grandchildren in far off lands, it makes sense to use Skype where you can not only hear them but see them.

Skype users Rosa?

Far too technical for me.

Oh. is that the wee thing that occasionally through a mistype throws my own image back at me? Now that's just too frightening.

Maybe no one wants to speak with the Scots?

And the Scots reciprocate?

I don't know if it was the areas I lived in, in Scotland, or if it is a general thing, but I never met ANY one who kept the same phone number for more than about 6 months.

They were ALWAYS changing them. No wonder the GPO could not keep up and had to add a 0 to give more lines.

"Carrier haggis" THAT is the problem.

Wee fury things with notes tied to their legs running all over the place.

You know the story of the haggis? Bit like a Bogart. And the Yanks believe BOTH. :-))

FT - I guess most of us Sassenachs don't.

Skype is a free download RA which allows folks to talk and see each other in real time. I have it and use it mainly for making sure my brother far away is actually there and it's not a recording.

Don't want a Sheridan result do I?;)

Ha ha Joe. Aye, you could well be right.

It was the area you lived in Furor. In my long lifetime I've never known anyone here who changes their telephone number. Oh that's not true. I remember one widow who was pestered by an admirer. She did.

If you can't be pleasant about the Scots, why do you bother commenting.

Better furry things running around than big furry things that don't want to be here in the first place. :)

I WROTE the story of the haggis Furor, so be careful. :)

Furor, I've removed your comment. I don't accept language like that.

Do have a Happy Christmas.
