The Announcement

'At last,' gasped the editor of Hello magazine on radio at lunchtime.  I could sense the £s signs dancing in her irises. Since then the media appear to have lost its ability to broadcast home and world news.

This shouldn't be news headlines.  The couple have been living together for some time yet they've decided an engagement is necessary.  Seems there are specific formalities for royals that don't apply to the hoi polloi.  At least they've decided to get married before their children are old enough to be page boys/flower girls.

I've just heard David Cameron saying, "It's good news and I'm sure it's an occasion when the country will come together."  Doubt if the bankers will bother Dave.  Thanks to their ability - with government help - to abuse our hard earned savings, they're in a position to drink Cristal any day of the week.

My good wishes to them. The engaged couple I mean.

Do we get a day off ,and will the pubs be open all day ?

Do you really want a day off Mcgraw? Wouldn't you rather have an extra day tagged onto your annual holiday?

Aren't the pubs open all day every day these days anyway? Don't forget, no drinking in the streets and even worse, if you do then you may have to stand next to a smoker.:)

I am told that sometimes these days nuptials may occur where the page/bridesmaid are grand children. Like yourself I wanted to get some real news. August 13 in the Anglican Church is the say where they celebrate the life of Dr. Jeremy Taylor. He had a lot to say about marriage. Perhaps at the ceremony there could be readings.

Demetrius, don't you think it's rather late in the day for casuistry in connection with this pair?

Perhaps I ought to go and read The Rule and Exercises of Holy Living. I'm always willing to learn.

Wills has been there long enough with Kate that wedding must be a matter of honour. Chas got it right when he said they had been practising long enough (and he should know!)

Oh No, it was bad enough regarding the press and Diana, now this. Would it be toooooooo much to ask for a period of quiet reflection - say about a century - on the future role of the Royals? Who's getting their leg over who and what colour of drawers the bride / groom may be wearing on the day is of NO interest to me. Ye gads.

Yes I agree John, but it doesn't have to be a circus at taxpayers' expense.

Now, if we did away with the Royals Dram you could have peace for a few centuries. :)

Surprise; surprise! Just when the country is in deep dodo due to sleight of fraud and complacent incompetence the 'Royals' are brought in to act as 'feel good' placebos.

Now we can look forward to months of puke inducing hogwash from the media airheads.

This will be accompanied by how bad things are in Ireland - Greece - Italy - anywhere in comparison to the incredibly competent, empathetic, equitable and thoroughly democratic governance we enjoy under Westminster.

As to the date of the wedding - my money is on the day of the Scottish election.

Feel good RA? I wish. As for the date you forecast, don't forget it's also the date for the libdems AV referendum.

Could be a good one though. :)
