Today's Non-Story

I know the majority of you will readily recognise the smiling face above, but for the few like me who don't have a clue who owns this delighted face, may I inform you that it is Europe minister David Lidington.

The Government will announce plans for a 'referendum lock' on any future surrendering of British powers to the EU the Telegraph is keen to point out.

The amendment, which could be law by next year, will allow for a vote if there is 'any transfer of powers away from the UK and towards the centre', according to a Whitehall source.

Interesting choice of words there. 'Centre'. So our politicians acknowledge Westminster is nothing more than a branch office of the EU and as for a 'referendum lock', what a waste of money. There little of value left to surrender to the 'Centre' and Westminster will ensure there's even less by the time this comes onto the statute books. Yet millions will be spent on this useless piece of legislation, while gas and electricity charges continue to rise and the militant union leaders call for protestors to sit in the middle of motorways.

Who said the 80s were bad?

What I've never understood is why so many of our politicians, left and right, have been so willing to hand over power to Brussels? What was in it for them? What did they know that we didn't? Politicians are normally power-hungry so the ease with which they have signed off on powers to the EU is baffling.

You're right, SR, we'll only get a referendum when there is nothing worth saving.

Our politicians were absprped into the Fabian Socialism movement beginning after WW2. Thatcher was no better than Blair, because both offered false paradigms. This communism will only stop when the last communist politician is throttled with the guts of the last Jesuit.

Money's in it William. Political parties receive money from the EU if they're 'believers'. I have a link somewhere about that if you're interested.

Now the constitutional cupboard is bare the Torys say no more if the E.U dares to try and take the remaining pile of sawdust in the corner of the cupboard......

we can have a (pointless)Referendum
why not have a simple in/out one suits me but then like Cameron and co I support membership of the E.U

I think there's a slow, slow approach to this that could work Niko, and I'll do a post about it when I've time.

If they're getting paid for it, SR, then why is Labour effectively bankrupt? A financial incentive is about the only one that makes sense, mind you.

William I don't know the answer to that. But do a google when you've time and you'll see how much each party receives. If I find the link I'll post it on here.
