Thank You Mr Haig, Thank You

Dear Mr Hague

I know you've been under intense pressure in the past 24 hours regarding your personal life but I would like to thank you for saving my sanity during that period. Your timing was perfect.

Yesterday a man published a book about himself and in the past week or so thought he'd spoken to everyone he surmised would be valuable to the success of his book launch. Yet you dominated the headlines. Excellent.

By yesterday evening you were still headlines and Channel 4 News' Labour leaders' debate drifted into oblivion (the only place for it). Again I thank you for saving me from the endless media analysis of the Not Famous Five.

Your sexuality doesn't interest me in the least but your capabilities as the country's Foreign Secretary do. In your position sharing a twin room with a male colleague was rather a silly thing to do, but people like me are forced to do it regularly, even with strangers. Only last year I was enrolled on a training course and arrived to find I was sharing a twin room with a total stranger - female of course. It could have spiced the weekend up a little if it had been some unknown male, but alas, I'll never know.

Now you've given your detailed response the matter should be laid to rest and you get on with the job which we pay you to do. Time to come up with some answers about the transfer of powers to the EU and to give us a vote on these. Time to clarify how the changes in the EU justice system will affect us. Lots of problems for you to resolve.

My sincere thanks once again.

Yours

Subrosa

PS May I suggest you buy a camper van for your personal use during campaigns? I know they're advertised as having room for two, but from experience the space is only enough for one plus a decent sized TV. Don't buy one if you're in the least claustrophobic.

Hi SR. Well said. However one of the American campers are a different thing, plenty of room for three or four or more.....!

Hear hear!

I had resigned myself to several days of grumpily ignoring the Blairfest* but instead I was able to ignore the Hague furore with a clear conscience and congratulate myself on not intruding into his personal affairs.

*I successfully avoided the previous Mandy media melee by heading to a highland bothy with no TV/radio/internet) but that option wasn't available this week.

Yes Apogee. Well... :)

I'm sure the Meeya were quite furious yesterday Macheath. They had their endless hours of book promotion at the ready and low and behold, a likeable tory jumps in and takes the top spot.

Such a shame you couldn't escape to the hills. It's quite lovely today, sunshine, warmer than or late and overall just delightful. TV and radio are banned until evening too. ;)

With all the power & influence that the EU possesses, isn't the post of "UK Foreign Secretary" redundant?

Adjoining rooms young man older man.......all totally innocent young man resigns for no reason at all

still one can only hope the younger man isn't seduced by the cash from fleet street.

No doubt the older man will have many sleepless nights over the young mans future plans

It seems strange that Wiliam needs a young good looking chap to 'advise him' on foreign affairs. A 25 year old advising a 'statesman' and the statesman sharing a room with the young chap to 'save money'.
Surely the young chap should never have been employed ? £30,000 would have been saved.
Cast Iron promised only 2 SPAD's per head and no more EU integration.
William employed 3 SPAD's and sent more ministers to Europe.
And now we have to read about unpleasant miscarriages from his wife Fion etc.
Most unpleasant and seems to confirm Wiliam as a liar - 12 pints a night man during his Tory election spin nonsense .
I suspect when he writes his memoirs we will hear about his preference for the 'gentlemans entrance ' etc.

I don't think it's actually redundant Joe, but it certainly doesn't hold the status it once did before Haig's new boss arrival in Brussels.

subrosa said...

Niko, conspiracies will abound. It just could be the truth that the young chap decided enough was enough and wasn't prepared to put up with the media fallout.

We'll have to wait and see.

That's one of the points I see RM but these things go on in politics all the time. Favours are called in, jobs for the boys etc etc.

At present I'm giving Haig the benefit of the doubt, but I'm certainly open to other opinions.

One thing is sure. If Fion had appeared in the media professing her love for her man et al then I would have known he was kidding me.

One other point RM, why is there so much interest in the sexuality of our politicians? I thought we were long past this paranoia these days.

I want my elected representatives to do their best for me. Their private sex life is of no concern to me, unless of course it interferes with their professional life.

The questions now are you initiated this and why. I can't believe it's the work of only one blogger.

Who are the sillier?

The politician or ex politician involved or the media for trying to make headlines of one while giving the other - an indictable war criminal- oodles of free publicity for an excuse for failure and fraud?

Especially when we all know the real headline leader of the moment is the allegation of corruption within the hallowed halls of cricket.

Ah well only another few days of such flippery before the silly season returns in earnest when they get back to work.

I know. Most folk are like you.
Who cares if the British Foreign Secretary enjoys buggering young boys ?
This is how low the UK has got to.

oops Sorry for that last posting SR.
Had a day off so was overindulging in the apres golf refreshments :)

In reply to your question about our leaders sexuality. I think it's more important these days because there is so much legislation that affects this issue. Civil partnership laws etc.
If someone continually voted against equality laws and it later emerged they were gay themselves would voters not be angry that they supported a hypocrite for years ?
They would probably have voted for someone else if they had known.
The MP is also open to blackmail by newspapers and may give the papers inside stories to stop them from being 'outed'. We keep hearing of top leaders hiding their sexuality. What price are they or we paying for this secrecy ?

It's six of one and half a dozen of the other RA. Mischief for idle minds perhaps.

RM I'll remove that post of you like. The experience of the 19th is occasionally seen around here too. Lots of wee boys trying to be grown up. :)

You do have a point. Blunt is an excellent example of that wouldn't you say? Voting against rights etc.

Hasn't it ever been thus though RM? Affairs, intrigue, secrecy within the halls of power? Only today, as you say, modern technology digs so much deeper into personal lives.

What price indeed. I'm sure we're paying quite a sum but of course that expenditure doesn't appear on the books. Then again, it may be classed as 'aid'.;)

RMcGeddon said...

Yes you're right SR . Secrecy has always been a hallmark of our governments.
Probably better to remove my post. Keep your blog a sweary free zone :)

subrosa said...

I don't think it's swearing RM, isn't it a criminal offence under common law? According to Wiki it is.

If that's all that is worrying you about the post then let it stand.

RMcGeddon said...

I didn't want to lower the tone of your blog SR but am happy with the post if you're happy.
I think it's only a criminal offence if it's between male and female :)
