James Kirkup isn't known as a hoaxer and there's seldom smoke without fire. For HMRC to claim they're capable of running anything efficiently is certainly humorous but to suggest they may take control of all our earnings, run them through a tax 'calculator', then pass the net salary onto the worker is like something out of an Ed Child's novel.
The tax authorities are consulting accountants, lawyers and businesses on the plans to reform the pay-as-you-earn (PAYE) system. Whoever same up with this idea could make a fortune as an author of fiction.
