Patricia Neal had what I always thought was a film star's lifestyle when I was young. She won an Oscar in 1963 for her part in the film Hud with Paul Newman, but it was her long-term affair with married Gary Cooper which made headlines. After a breakdown she married the children's author Roald Dahl then tragically she suffered a series of strokes. Determinedly she undertook therapy - learning to walk and talk again being part of it - and returned to the stage.
She was one of these women who brought glamour to the screen. Glamour - a word which is seldom used in these days of celebrities.
