Cameron Shrinks in India

The Queen inspecting the 1st Battalion Cameronians
at Holyrood 1950/60s

I watched David Cameron inspecting the Guard of Honour during his visit to India and found his performance disappointing. He looked extremely uncomfortable; as if he wished he was anywhere but there. Possibly that's not too far from the truth. He appeared to shrink in stature as he attempted to refrain from making a run for it. (I've tried hard to find a video clip with David Cameron inspecting the guard of honour in India but no news outlets have one).

'It really is time to give politicians some basic training in the courtesies of such inspections'. Indeed it is. The suggestion that HRH, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh could lead the training is excellent. It could turn out to be a nice wee earner for Her Majesty's purse too. HRH Training Ltd has a pleasant ring to it don't you think?

As part of the training from royalty, a few 6am's on the parade ground at Catterick should be included in the induction. Just as a warm up. I'm sure HM Forces will be too happy to help out HRH in her project. Our politicians need to learn how to walk the walk as well as talk the talk and do the walking with some dignity.

But surely SR, there must be some mistake?

David Cameron had not been born in 1950 - thank the Lord - and when did he insist on 'Party' dress?

Best training for Dave would be to teach him to keep his mouth shut unless he is 100% sure of what he says

Auch WFW, I consider myself reprimanded.

As I couldn't find a photo of the event and didn't want to steal the one from Demetrius, I decided a bonny picture of Holyrood House in the 50 or 60s would please readers.

I can see you're not impressed. :)

John, I've just read your post and agree with you. Hope others read it too. It's most insightful.

But SR, I am always impressed by what you post.......

I am just not impressed by The Boy Dave!
Much to my eternal shame - he's bloody English too!

As an aside - I respect Salmond more than Cameron, albeit it hurts to say so!

I haven't heard that Niko. Will have to keep my eyes open a bit more.

Aye WFW, Cameron's beginning to look rather shallow unfortunately. No shallowness with Eck though. ;)

There isn't much of it, SR, but this ITN video has the bit you're talking about.

Many many thanks BS, that's not the clip I saw but it's enough. I thought mine was from Sky but I could be wrong.

The Cameronians, there is a web site, www.cameronians.org for those interested. Sometimes I put up the Disbandment Parade and weep that one of the finest Regiments were lost in this way. I knew that battalion and both paraded and worked alongside them.

Demetrius, that's most kind of you to give the link. I wondered if anyone would click with the Cameronian picture.

My grandfather was in them too. I think my mother must have destroyed his regimental photographs because I never found them when I cleared her house after she'd died.

On the web site go to Links and acroll down to Photographs of the Cameronians in Germany 1954-56 and click on. On Page 8 are a couple of earlier ones and one of a company in 1946-47. The ones I related to are Pages 5 & 6 of the Regiment on manoevres. Yes, it is the Desert Rat insignia of the then 7th Armoured Division.

Thanks Demetrius. I did have a look when you first gave the link. My grandfather would have served around the 1920 if not earlier. I don't know the exact dates because he died in 1953, at the age of 54, when I was seven.
