Ads Which Just Don't Work Anymore

I was in the Ovaltineys and listened avidly to 'my' Sunday evening half hour on Radio Luxemburg. Still recall the whole song: "We are the Ovaltineys, happy girls and boys. At games and sports we're more than keen, no merrier children can be seen. Because we all drink Ovaltine, we're happy girls and boys." The innocence of childhood.

and last but by no means least:
Maybe a few posters with this message, aimed at females and males, would reduce the STI stats. This blog does not tolerate sex discrimination.

I didn't know Ovaltine was available in the House of Commons restaurants.

I recall one poster in the old days that proclaimed that VD can be caught. To which someone had added "So can kippers". Life was different then.

Ha, ha, ha, my favourite Ovaltine ad went as follows: Scene, a house living room in the winter, with fire burning down in the grate, Standard light on in the corner (dim and moody). Enter man and woman in pyjamas, night dress and dressing gowns. Each has a mug of the mixture. The lady has the line: "George and I have it every night in front of the fire"........lucky old George! But we were innocents then and went off to bed wondering where the yellow had went as we brushed our teeth with Pepsident.

There was an advertising slogan that was used by the Scottish Co-op many, many years ago: "Mrs. McCrindle gets her oats at the Co-op"

Chris 'Underpants' Bryan would like the first ad.

Well the Ovaltine ad was truthful at least! Never took it - hence I am still an old-fashioned hetro!

Money always reminds me of our former prime Minister for some reason.

Many thanks Jim for the links. Brought back memories. :)

It's not Joe. It was only for happy boys and girls. ;)

Life was certainly different then Demetrius. We were totally ashamed to contract an STi as they're known today. Perhaps it would be better of they were called what they really are. Sexually transmitted diseases which can cause problems all your life.

Too many 'quick fixes' today which don't always work.

Jings Dram, I was a teenager when that was on TV. I'm going back to the days before TV with my recollection.

Truthfully I'm distraught you're younger than me. ;)

subrosa said...

Joe, I note the minister had no answer. What does that say? ;)

subrosa said...

Thank you John. I did sing up and I have to admit my recall is rather poor as I obviously didn't remember the words correctly.

I sang what I wrote. Obviously the Scots version. ;)

Auch Bill, it says 'the video has now expired'. What have I done?

subrosa said...

WFW I bet you were a hot chocolate bloke although whether than substantiated your hetrosexuality I don't know. I can only guess. ;)

Hi Dram. I can remember the Pepsident commercial from the radio when I was just into secondary school, and the rather dirty joke story that went with it. ( well, some of it, it was a long time ago).

We convent school girls are intrigued by the adverts for Patek Philippe.

I took Ovaltine as a kid - explains a lot really - my parents will have to give me some straight answers.

SR, hate chocolate unless its maltesers - always been a tea man.

subrosa said...

They're rather good Aangirfan. Subtle. I like that.

subrosa said...

Brownlie, we're far too mature to start looking for answers now!

Not keen on chocoate myself WFW, but I like the odd cup of decaf expresso. Fennel and peppermint tea is my latest discovery.
