More North Sea Oil

I was going to mention this post from BellgroveBelle in my previous post 'Take Your Pick' but decided it was too important and required a post of its own.

EnCore has found a significant amount of oil in the North Sea yet, as Belle mentions, there has been nothing about this in the media other than the snippet tucked away on the BBC website and a fleeting report on the late news.

It's impossible to disagree with Belle about an oil fund for Scotland. Surely Scotland could set one up or, at the very least, be able to hold back enough funds to balance our National Grid contributions in alignment with the average in England. Where power is concerned, what is the point of Scotland generating so much yet giving it away for nothing?

I'm surprised. Usually subrosa can be relied on when it comes to blogging on what's what -

More Worthless Oil Found in North Sea

A big thumbs down I'm afraid subrosa.

Who needs oil when you have the biggest money-making scheme of all - you, me and the rest of the western taxpaying public?

Well Joe, I did google it and only found the bit on the BBC site and other bits regarding the Shetlands.

I apologise if my research wasn't good enough.

Lets just call it reparations for the damage inflicted on England & the rest of the UK (inc. Scotland) by some Scots MPs during the previous parliament.

Ah Joe, what a charitable thought. Problem is, I can't afford to be so charitable.

Well that should put any hopes of independence on the back burner.

I doubt they'll let us go till they've drained every drop of oil from "British" seas, then we can have them back.... when they are full of ....water.

I didn't find any mention of it either SR, but then I wouldn't read the Scotsman if the alternative was red hot needles in my eyes.

I have to admit Tris, I seldom read the Scotsman these days either, although if it comes up in a google search then I will.

Eh Jo P,

We're still waiting for reperations for the transfer of wealth from Scotland to the South East of England under Thatcher. Oh and don't forget that the finances of Britain (under Labour) were largely drained under Blair who was MP for Islington I do believe.

You know, the war criminal..

War criminal right enough. It's all beginning to unravel though Alex. The change in government has assumed the role of head hunter and released papers which would never have seen the light of day for generations.

It's a shame... and I mean that litterally) that it takes political machinations to get the truth in this country.

Law counrts and Royal Commissions be damned if the same part is in power.

And we go around the world preaching democracy? No wonder we are disliked. "You do it this way... and we'll carry on as if Queen Victoria was still on her throne".

I was just talking with some Irish friends today Tris and they were saying there's no democracy within the UK. The money goes round the chosen few and so do the decisions. We 'donate' the money of course.

I agree completely with your friends SR.

As I've said so many times before. We have a FPTP lower house where far more than half the seat never change hands (or bottoms), a semi hereditary, semi appointed, incredibly massive second house, and an hereditary head of state.

We know from old that Royal Commission and Commissions of enquiry almost always (I repeat almost) end in the great and the good (erm yeah) being exonerated from any possible blame with complete catastrophes, and of course we have the EU which is not in its current state a democratic organisation.

We have a snob and class based structure to our society and for all they say that anyone can make it to the top ...well ask Craig Murray about that.

I'm not afraid to say that it's a crap country the structure of which is designed for the rich and the devil take the hindmost.

I'm pleased and happy to be Scottish but I'm ashamed to be British, and I'm disappointed that Scottish people have so little self confidence and pride in themselves as to want to continue in this pig sty of a country.

Brave wee Ireland may be in a mess now, but it prospered a while ago and it will again, like the Icelanders.

The cheek of that half wit man who wasn’t even councillor material in my opinion, to say that they were bankrupt (when the UK situation is worse than the Irish one) is just diabolical. I wish he’d lost his seat. Whoever is Scottish Secretary this week will have an easy job with that idiot.

I'm not disappointed with my countrymen I'm angry Tris. They've become so complacent and few have the energy to bother about anything.

So many of my own age have much to give in many ways yet say they're too old. Someone slightly younger than me told me today they he was too old to learn about computers so expected his children to organise his whole life. You can imagine my answer!
