English National Anthem

There has been a bit of talk about an English national anthem in the blogosphere.

This is my contribution, sung by Deanna Durbin. It ends on a high note!

It all depends on what you accept as the English flag of course. Those Scots who think of it as the flag of St. George can get really annoyed by that song.

But then that's the idea, isn't it?

Oh Jim, you cynic you. I just like the song and I thought it was an appropriate day to suggest it. :)

I love that one and also I Vow to thee my country. I always liked to sing that one in school..

Jerusalem was our school song... :)

High note?? It shattered one of my best crystal glasses and now there's Chateau Petrus all over my MBP! ;)

Has it dried yet Tcheuchter? Braw voice she had though.

Chateau Petrus? I think the match deserved a Blue Nun at best. :)

I never liked Jerusalem Sue but I like your alternative choice.

My school song was specially written for the school.

It starts:

O'wer the bridge that spans the river
Moving slowly to the sea
Looks the Morgan now as ever
Fairest school in all Dundee
And as day by day we view her
Standing stately on the hill
Proudly pay we homage to her
Gladly sing with right good will

Chorus

Hail the Morgan stately, splendid
Hail (jail) the teachers, every one
Cheer we every goal defended
Every hit and every run
We would strive with every lesson
As we strive when at our play
Learn with every passion session
Who would rule, must first obey.

If that had been written today the Righteous would have been jumping up and down about it not meeting some equality policy.

Thanks for the kind thought but I'd rather Jerusalem too.

"I've Got A Brand New Combined Harvester". Well, it makes more sense than most of these national anthems.

Jings banned, hope you aren't thinking I meant England could adopt my old school song. ;)

Or 'Don't Give Up' Demetrius. I think Lionel Ritchie sang that once but I could be very wrong.
