Repatrition

The body of a soldier from County Durham is due to be flown back home alongside two other British soldiers who were killed in Afghanistan.

Sapper Daryn Roy of 21 Engineer Regiment and Corporal Harvey Holmes of 1st Battalion The Mercian Regiment, died in explosions earlier this week. Lance Corporal Barry Buxton, also of 21 Engineer Regiment, died in a road accident.

The fatalities now number 284.

As the many of our troops deployed overseas have been denied their right to vote, we have this behaviour occurring. It angers me to think that anyone would give away their vote when so many struggled and even died for each and every one of us to have the right to vote. To give their vote to someone in another country should be illegal.

Frighteningly, the three main parties are declared warmakers. None considers invading Afghanistan is wrong even although history tells us differently. Even Nick Clegg supports the invasion of a 'failed state' provided there is the "right equipment the right resources." What does he mean by that? The military will never have the equipment they really need in the way the Americans do and as for resources, does he mean cannon fodder? I have no faith whatsoever in any political party which supports wars like Iraq and Afghanistan. These countries were of no danger to our home security yet, now they have been enacted, our security will be at risk for generations to come.

It's not that long ago that we were discussing the 200th innocent military victim of Bush-Blair-Brown war. The 300th isn't far away.

Yet no politician gives a damn Mark.

I do hope, if Cameron takes the reigns, he will immediately set up a war cabinet. This will allow money to come from the Treasury instead of just the MoD budget and the extra money may just push the equipment programme along more quickly.

I honestly think that would be good money after bad. Operation Enduring Freedom began nine years ago this 7th of October. We'll be over 300 dead by then and no further forward in creating 'enduring freedom' for the Afghans.

Rather I'd hope that our troops are back home before September and that diplomatic pressure is put on landlocked Afghanistan by
Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikstan, China, Pakistan, Iran and China who all share a border.

If you remember the USA issued an ultimatum to the Taliban.

1. Handover to the U.S. all of the leaders of al-Qaeda

2. Release all imprisoned foreign nationals

3. Close immediately every terrorist training camp

4. Hand over every terrorist and their supporters to appropriate authorities

5. Give the United States full access to terrorist training camps for inspection.

The Taliban proposed that Bin Laden be tried in a Muslim country, the USA rejected that.

Now that their original ultimatum is void as the Afghanistan government control the country, why are we and the US still there?

Thanks for your comment Mark and it's very much in line with my opinion.

No politicians have made any effort to compose a withdrawal plan. The excuse is that they can't do it because they've no idea how long the training of the Afghans will take.

That's rubbish and we know it.

The ultimatums have changed regularly. I doubt if any of the initial US ones are current now.

This is a political war in which, if we had any sense of pride and fairness, we wouldn't be involved now.
