Campbell is a distasteful man and his obfuscations and mendacity knows no bounds. Boulton was right in taking offence unfortunately he is not quite up to the intellectual caliber of Campbell and so did not score particularly well with his rebukes.

Didn't the election show that England voted a Conservative Government, and Scotland voted a Labour goverment under the FPTP system, which they both support.

Of course when it suits them they talk about share of the vote, b ut it doesn't always suit them.

It seems to me, looking at the political map that England is a blue country and Scotland a red one.

Scotland never forces a Labour Government on the English. With 500+ seats, the English decide the outcome of the election, but it simply cannot be denied that the Scots did not vote Tory, not by any manipulation of the figures.

I think Boulton is an intelligent man but he was so wound up he lost his articulation Antisthenes.

I don't think anyone is denying the figures Tris.

It's an excellent scenario for independence though isn't it?

Labour of course wouldn't consider that because they want UK power not national.

Rosa, Labour can only guarantee it's powerbase with the current system. That's why we've got an SNP government which was voted for in a more PR like election. Scotland would probably have a lot less red if the votes had been in a PR format.

You're right Andrew because the SNP need to work so much harder to gain seats.

Of course the system here in Scotland was designed to keep the SNP out but it backfired. If labour get in again to the SP they'll ensure further tinkerings to achieve their malicious ends.

It will be interesting to see who replaces Brown. If it's one of the new generation, like David Milliband or Ed Balls then we will see the generational change in political in leadership in Britian almost completed. Salmond, Clegg, Cameron and Welsh First Minister Carwyn Jones all come from a new Generation known as "Generation Jones" (the formerly undiscovered generation between Baby-Boomers and Gen-X). There's an interesting article about what this generational shift means here: http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/commentators/jonathan-pontell-cleggs-rise-is-the-sound-of-generation-jones-clearing-its-throat-1961191.html
Similar generational shifts have occurred in France and the US amog others - it will be interesting to see how it plays out here.

Hi K. Yes, that's my generation back in the long grass once Brown goes later today or tomorrow.

Many thanks for the link. Most interesting and has opened my eyes somewhat to the generational differences in today's world.
