I know he's young, a Scottish blogger and a labour activist, but I was disappointed to read this on Twitter. Not smart Yousuf - even if you did think it was humorous.

Not smart, but mildly amusing.

Here's my take on Bigotgate

Perhaps on reflection he may want to re-write his tweet …

yousufhamid: I guess we have lost everybodies vote

Not very good for the supposed 8th best blogger in Scotland.

Pretty stupid. I've been amazed at how many times people have been incredibly stupid in this election.

It's so easy to publish something and so hard take it back.

They just can't help themselves. Their disdain for ordinary folk and their concerns will betray them every time.

just a joke subrosa. Of course what Brown said was wrong and he has apologised in person which was the right thing to do.

… and so should you ,sir!

Wasn't clever though Yousuf. It came over as quite distasteful especially as it was typed during the time the media were talking with Mrs Duffy and she was upset.

I can usually take a joke but I could understand the woman's concerns as a pensioner myself.

Would you have said the same if Gordon Brown if the remarks had somehow referred to homosexuals? Doubt it.

Oh c'mon, it wasn't that bad. The Yosuf chaps joke that is.

As for G Brown, it's only another of his gaffs. We all know the politicians generally regard the public as peasants. So why be outraged when the truth slips out.

As for Yosuf; if he does support Labour, now that the bigots have been disillusioned he should start worrying the idiots who still support labour join them.

Looks like he's deleted his hilarious joke. With this kind of sound judgement and decisiveness he could be the next leader of the Labour Party.

Auch RA he's only young. What I wanted to emphasis was the meaning of the word bigot. It's perhaps the biggest insult anyone could give to my generation just because they mention immigration.

Perhaps, being young, Yoursuf didn't realise the meaning of the word. For me it's worse than racist and that, in this Righteous world, is not good.

I hope Mrs Duffy sues.

subrosa said...

Why don't you email me The Network then we can perhaps organise something?

Never fear Colin, screenshots of the offending post have most certainly been made by the media - they'll be wheeled out when Yousuf climbs a little higher up the greasy pole.

Gordon Brown could not give a toss about this woman. He just does not like getting a hard time from anyone. He is only grovelling to her now because he fears that it has lost him votes - nothing more nothing less.

Conan the Librarian™ said...

Indeed Billy.

Is this Yousuf's, Stuart MacLennan moment?
Probably not; the wolves are after his boss at the moment...

SR

Just shows that from root to tip they still operate in the gutter, Labour, the great deceit is over bye bye Broon, Coward Murphy et al.

subrosa said...

Billy, we seldom agree, but I do with you on this.

subrosa said...

Conan, labour don't go after their own as you should know. It's us independent supporters they target.

subrosa said...

CD the more I hear about this and the excuses, the more it sickens me.

Actually it doesn't sicken me more than someone being called a bigot without case.

I hope the woman sues.

I thought it was quite amusing personally. It's hardly as though it was a joke made at Mrs Duffy's expense, so I really don't understand the accusation of poor taste.

Brown's lack of judgement and paranoid behaviour shouldn't be a surprise to anyone - he is entirely consistent. Just as he doesn't know when or how to smile.

On the other hand, I'm sure all politicians say things about voters - especially their supporters - that they wouldn't want made public. The ones with even a vague connection to reality realise when they are wearing a broadcast microphone.

Yusuf's joke was vaguely funny - only in its timing - and probably served only to highlight the disdain the party machines have for the concerns of ordinary voters. The funny thing is that they probably have lost the bigot vote in Glasgow - given the BNP candidates running in all seven seats. Which is going to make some interesting electoral maths (especially given that a common expression of bigotry in Scotland is anti-English sentiment, therefore there are small number of raving loonies chained up in the kennels behind most SNP clubs ...)

subrosa said...

Perhaps it's me and my generation BTS. I find the word bigot a horrendous word.

Reporters said it could be worse, he could have been heard swearing, but I disagree.

Bigot is a dreadful word, but it's often used in the west, so I suppose young Yousuf is used to hearing it as he lives over that way.

subrosa said...

SE, I wasn't getting at the lad and his timing. My intention was to show the word bigot isn't acceptable in yesterday's situation.

Bigot=racist. Would he have written 'we've lost the racist vote then'? I doubt it.

BTS said...

SR, I think it would have been equally as valid if the reference had been the racist vote, the idiot vote, the ****wit vote or anything else for that matter. The point is surely that it was a joke and it was made at Gordo's expense, if anyone's. Yousef wasn't the one calling Mrs Duffy that name, merely referencing Our Beloved Leader's cock-up.

subrosa said...

BTS I see where you're coming from but I know Yousuf and he would never send up his great leader. He's happy enough to send up wee Eck as often as possible though.

All's fair in love and politics. :)

BTS said...

Fair enough. I can't argue with insider knowledge. He's obviously mental if he supports Labour anyway..

subrosa said...

BTS, I'm sure he's a nice lad. It was his timing that caused me to post it. If he'd left it until evening I would have viewed it as clever but stupid. As I've said it was yesterday involved the use of the word bigot.

CrazyDaisy said...

Has yousef got pubes yet?

Just for the record, because he seems to act like a juvenille.
