Scotland and the Benefits of the EU

First Minister Alex Salmond reported yesterday that more than £9m from the European Regional Development Fund will support the creation of 740 jobs in Scotland.

A number of projects are to benefit with Aberdeen University receiving the largest grant of £2.6, towards a new facility to help accommodate Scotland's growing life sciences sector.

Other universities have also been awarded funding. Alex Salmond said: "Scotland is a world leader in technology, innovation and enterprise - our scientists have been at the forefront of innovations such as Dolly the sheep, keyhole surgery and renewable energy technologies.

"I am confident that as well as supporting the creation of 740 jobs and investing in our research base, this funding will help deliver innovative solutions to problems affecting our modern world."

Many will say this is good news but it could be so much better. It is calculated that Scotland's net contribution to the EU is running at an average of £532m a year - more than £100 for every man, woman and child. This funding is no gift, it is the return of a small amount of our own contribution.

Let's not forget either than every £1 which comes from the ERDF is taken off Scotland's block grant.

What wonderful benefits we receive from the European Union.

We've been deceived by all London parties scunnert. Both the tories and libdems said they'd give us a referendum too.

Maybe you should consider a temporarily supporting UKIP, SR, then switching back to the SNP after the job's done?

I'm pretty sure that London party wouldn't go back on a referendum...

That would be a wasted vote here IPP. I'll stick with the SNP.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

We have been lied to time and time again by London, Rosie. A great insitution if ever I saw one. I wish we had two of them. Oh, we do. We've got London Too!

Yep, Labour are indeed astute businessmen!

What gets me is they're all having orgasms about £9 million but don't tell anyone about the other side of the coin.

I am totally bemused at why we are a member of this ripoff club. I hate conspiracy theories but NWO and Common Purpose is beginning to look like a reality.

It's so going to be the end of Britain as we know it. We have to get out, URGENTLY.

And with strings attached, remember; one of which is that we have to trumpet every tiny return with huge billboard crediting the EU, as if they were actually giving us something.

Oh, and Mr. Mxyzptlk, the SNP is strongly pro-EU, because the English are against it. This is what makes such a mockery of all their blether about "independence"; they are not talking about independence at all, merely a different sort of vassalage.

I didn't realise there had to be an EU popularity advert each time a little was returned WY. Interesting. Thanks.

This is the Scottish government Sue and the SNP support the EU wholeheartedly.

Oh the NWO exists, I'm sure of it. CP does also. If you look at their website there's something 'unright' about it.
