Stephen Purcell Resigns as Councillor

Stephen Purcell, ex-leader of Glasgow City Council, has resigned as a councillor today according to STV news.

The 37-year-old was one of Labour's rising stars and his sudden resignation from the post of leader of Scotland's largest council earlier in the week caused some drama in Scottish politics. It was said at the time he would continue to serve as a councillor.

Now he has left politics altogether. A loss for many.

Thanks to Mark for his sharp eyes.

One of my contacts has posted the following in quick succession:

1. Can't comment on Purcell's resignation due to the nature of a related story that could break within the next few hours. Huge story.

The young man found dead outside the City chambers a few hours ago is not related to the Purcell situation. No suspicious circumstances.

Well well why am I not surprised? We await your news Mark. Thanks for alerting us.

Rab are you getting priority info? lol

Goodness Mark, I didn't even know a lad had been found dead in Glasgow. Nothing on the news as yet.

Thanks for the info because I suspect some news agencies would make a conspiracy out of it.

Mark, I thought you were kidding on about the tube of lube, the infaltable sheep and the Jimmy Krankie outfit!

Rosa, just doing a bit of digging! ;o)

Thanks for brining this to our attention. I rarely watch the telly news... I wonder what is happening, and why now....

Oh, me. I am so out of the loop. I only learned who this guy was after he had gone, and then only because Guido had it. I hope Mark can enlighten us dim wits at the back.

Tris we'll just have to wait for the next installment.

I bet Glasgow labour is jumping up and down trying to keep a lid on all this WW.

My contact had erroneously conflated the death of the young chap with the ongoing saga at the city halls. Thankfully the two are not connected. I suspect the police, cocaine dealers, gangsters, Kelvin River and blackmail stories that are doing the rounds will have to hold over to Sunday, when the tabloids will make a sanctimonious killing.

Haven't a clue what all of you are on about.

But it does seem strange that a simple matter of resignation should require the employment of lawyers and PR spin masters?

Feeling as does WW, so I thought here would be a good place for enlightenment. There are press reports Mr Purcell has left Scotland and won't be back for a year; he's always been interested in the southern hemisphere evidently. Has he been the transported to Australia?

subrosa said...

What we're on about is the speed in which Mr Purcell resigned from his leadership post RA and true, why the necessity for lawyers and PR.

Anything is possibly if you displease the labour hierarchy I should think hatfield girl. :)
