Farage sounds like a McCathyite to me.

Greece is in a serious financial state and wants a rescue. Basically its government spends more than it raises in taxes (sounds familiar). Now nobody wants its debt.

What choice did independent UK have in 1976? When IMF help was needed you need to take the medicine!

This is a test for the Euro. Its failure has been predicted for years by people like Farage and pro-USA faction.

McCarthyite

We could do with a few more politicians like him.

I don't think he's McCarthyite Strathturret. He is correct about the communist content and we had devaluation in 1976.

I think all political candidates should have public speaking training before they're elected Sue instead of at our expense once they're elected.

Of course the lefties will shout that's unfair but where else in this country do you earn (loose term) £65,000 and have no qualifications whatsoever?

Excellent, lucid, speech.
What a shame that some of our mumblers can't speak like him.

Good speech.
Communists in the EU?
What about Communists in the labour party Government in the UK?

Few of them can Cato. William Hague is perhaps one and Dan Hannan plus another couple of tories but I can't think of many more.

Making the point that many people were communists years ago is McCarthyite. What relevance does it have? Was it illegal? What was Farage doing in his youth?

For goodness sake Denis Healey was once a communist. He was then a Major in WWII before becoming Defence and Foreign secretary.

Ah OK Strathturret. My understanding of McCarthyism is someone who accuses without considering reasonable evidence.

I think there's plenty evidence around of communism in the UK, in fact the last bastion of it is more or less on my doorstep.

A few years ago I attended a conference on education in Fife. One of the speakers was a local labour politician who repeatedly referred to his communist masters.

Comrades was the in word that night.

I wish he was Scottish. I would vote for him no matter which party he led.

Communism has never been tried. The name has been used - or rather abused - but as an ideology it has never been sensibly implemented and tested.

While I'm no fan of the EU - mainly down to its lack of democratic process and the sophistry of its economics and lack of accountability - the present ferago regarding the PIGS is more concerning by what is not being said other than the implied concerns for the economies of Portugal, Ireland, Greece and Spain.

No mention of the newboys from the east, nor the fact the three main powerhouses Germany, France and the UK, once their 'invisible earnings' are removed are, percentage wise, even heavier in the mire of red.

And just remember these are the same wailing economists who failed to spot the financial idiocy that has caused so many knees to jerk.

You want to get out from under this sophistry? Vote for independence.

Any country that can get out from under and start from a clean spreadsheet will be much envied - which may be a sobering thought.

You're quite right RA communism has never been tried. The communists decided to use the labour party as a stepping stone to their goals but were quickly enveloped into the power structure we now have. Their ideals went out the window.

Will independence bring a break from the EU? As I see it the SNP are as firmly pro EU as the unionist parties.

Crinkly & Ragged Arsed Philosophers said...

More's the pity Rosa, but as the man said "every journey begins with a single step.'

As I think I've mentioned before, the SNP have won the right to take Scotland to independence. It has as yet to win the right to govern an independent Scotland.

Republican, pluralistic with emphasis on education, science based industry,R&D and the developing of renewable energy production and marketing are all part of what I see as Scotland's second enlightenment.

A place for everything, capitalism, socialism, public/private partnerships; anything provided the words stupid, greed and corruption can be removed from its lexicon and Westminster from its influence.

I can't disagree with a word RA.
