It would have been better if they had re-opened the old railway branch lines that are around Edinburgh. Cheaper too as the formation is there. For the airport, a station on the existing railway line would have sufficed.

Voter: Exactly - I've wandered and cycled all over the toon using these tracks. Beats me why they were never considered and of course the trams could have run down the Waverly / haymarket tracks (as a light rail system) coming off at appropriate exits (I was going to say points but that would be pushing it) rather than right down Princes st and Leith walk.

Dunno about the particular issues in Edinburgh but each and every accident in that Youtube vid was the result of sloppy drivers not bothering to check whether there was a thundering great tram coming up behind before blithely turning left across the tram lines.

Incidentaly, will Edinburgh be investing in a fleet of grapple trucks which I have seen in Milan unceremoniously picking cars up by the roof and shifting them off the tram lines upon which they have carelessly parked ?
It's almost as funny as seeing cars get wrecked when they try to dodge rising bollards.

Aye banned, I know every accident involved vehicles forgetting to look out for trams but I can foresee some in Edinburgh like this can't you?

I'll stick to Glasgow I think.

I never liked the idea of the trams, but watching that video of silly car drivers getting squished was fun - maybe I'll have to change my mind.

You can just imagine the melee can't you Vronsky. Trams held up for long enough while vehicles are plucked from their undersides.

Saves petrol and the environment. Just steer in front of one, put it in neutral, cut ignition, and coast to where you want to go.

Now there's an idea Dick. Position yourself on the rails and wait for the oncoming shove.
