Scotland's Boys Clubs
Firstly let me apologise for the lack of posts the past couple of days. I have a problem with one of my corneas and the medication involves a pupil dilator, the same drops the opthalmic doctor puts in to examine the back of your eye. I'm told that helps keep the cornea together but vision is affected and because they cause photo-sensitivity, looking at television or a computer screen is nearly impossible. At least my problem will improve in a few days - some people who attend the Ninewells Eye Clinic have sight problems which will only deteriorate no matter how much care and treatment is available.
Excuses over!
Some of you may have noticed I've posted a couple of articles from the Scottish Review recently. Kenneth Royle, who is the editor, has come up with another cracker. His investigative journalism leaves many Scottish journalists in the shade.
This one is entitled 'The all-male clubs paid for by us' - another real eye-opener which addresses the reason for the gender disaster in Scotland's public bodies. It all begins with Scotland's boys clubs...
(For those who were interested in my recent post regarding Scotland's Hidden Judges, Scottish Review has had some interesting responses.)

Hope you're recovered soon, SR.
I wish you well. Health is more important than blogging.
Subrosa, sorry to hear of your eye problems, hope it's all resolved soon. Take care - and stay off the Computer.
Nice post -
Gender bias in Scottish society is endemic; when managing male staff on-site most clients assume that the oldest male is the boss. Often even after being told that me, the woman, is in charge many male & female clients persist in addressing management issues to the guys first. How do you overcome this? Search me, short of making my staff wearing t-shirts with my picture on them and emblazoned with the words 'My Boss' i'm stuck for ideas.
Oh dear Subrosa. I hope this eye problem is getting better. From what I know of you you're not the type to "enjoy" being sick. Get well soon.
But you're right. Every time I'm anywhere near a doctors' surgery or a hospital I thank my lucky stars that I'm not one of these poor souls who's getting worse instead of better.
There are things to be grateful for in life.
Dear me SubR, between you and Gordon, you are a right pair.
I'll be fine CF thanks. Had a chap about 12 pick bits off my cornea with a paid of tweezers the size of my garden shears today. Life is full of experiences isn't it. :)
Indeed Howard, indeed. I do miss it though, I'm having to shout at the birds in the garden instead and they're not too happy. :)
Polaris, I had the same problem many years ago.
My solution was, when asked where or who was the boss, was to answer "The one who wears the stockings." That stunned them and thereafter I would catch glances which were thoughts - "Does she really wear stockings?'. I just smiled, not too sweetly and got on with business.
It may take time tris, but I'm in good hands I know.
Billy, dearie me. I could never paid with Brown, no matter how desperate, honestly.
Sorry to read of your eye problem, I hope it improves soon. It doesn't stop you seeing what's going on.
Subrosa,
Get well soon wifey! We admire your selflessness and tenacity in the face of adversity to post even a little!
With much love and respect,
CD
Thanks Derek. TV and computers aren't really usable at present but I can still hear what's happening. Get so angry I can't post too often but it's getting better.
Auch CD, will you marry me? rofl
