Italians Warned Off

The Italian government is recommending that Italians avoid travelling to places with high numbers of the swine flu infection.

As the UK has had by far the highest number of confirmed cases in Europe to date, this means Italy is telling its citizens to avoid the UK this summer.

Despite the relatively low level of mortality, it appears the Italian government is seriously concerned that the situation in Italy could take a turn for the worse.

How many more governments will warn their citizens against travelling to the UK? I suspect quite a few in the coming months.

This will damage our economy, not only the tourist economy, but the English language teaching business which relies greatly on European business.

Swine flu in Italy.

Berlusconi actions of late make me wonder if an STD is a bigger threat than swine flu in italy.

Surprisingly, the mafia has no stake in the Tamiflu industry, although in the States the gangsters who do have been granted immunity from prosecution if their untested product kills anyone. Wonder if that applies here?

It isn't unusual for vaccines to be deadlier than the disease - in the 2001 anthrax attacks in the US (perpetrator still unknown) five people died from anthrax and 22 from the vaccine.

To keep things in proportion, 'Number Crunching' from Private Eye:

29: Total deaths in UK from swine flu at time of going to press

3-4,000: Average deaths in UK from seasonal flu each year

Per capita land mass we are the most crowded Nation in Europe. Those areas suffering the greatest incidence of disease are the major conurbations. Replicating The Mexican outbreak. More people anyone? 70 million NOW, not in 2050. It will be over 100 million by then. Crazy.
By the way, Scotland does not take it's fair share so you are to be softened up to grow much more rapidly. More voters, you see!

Scotland isn't as attractive to immigrants as the south of England OR, so said some important individual on radio last night. You will notice he was so important I didn't bother remembering the name. As I become older I'm becoming more selective about names. :)

Well, with the politically inspired, gong-hunting toadies of the GMC promoting Westminster's about to be instigated EWHD on Ist August in the NHS - along with the newly mangled and grossly shortened medical specialist 'training' systems plus the barely credible job application systems for junior doctors - Swine Flu admissions should be a blast.
Perhaps too late, but nonetheless worthy, RemedyUK - an official antidote of professionally motivated medics (with dozens of senior clinicians, medical academics and thousands of junior medics) have just won their appeal to question the legal and professional integrity of the GMC decisions which may lead to unsustainable pressure on our NHS systems and its minimal clinical staffing numbers.
The rate of loss to the emigration of our expensively educated and experienced medical, nursing and technical staff runs into the thousands over the last five years. I don't see too many replacements clinging to the undersides of lorries?

The link I gave seems knackered. This should work.

Ah dear, and I managed to get my dose of Swine Flu in Italy!

Ten drugged up days of misery in a very hot tent.

I confess to having googled EWHD Clarinda and in the process found little praise recorded by the people at the sharp end.

RemedyUK sounds just what's needed, although as you say rather late. The GMC needed a sound body to take them to task years ago.

I'm sure you will tell me if my information is incorrect, but some time ago I was told, owing to the emigration of our highly qualified staff, we were having to accept less qualified immigrants, then having to educate them to our standards. If this is correct it shows the lack of innovation and common sense our politicians possess. But we knew that didn't we.
