The Self-Diagnosing MP

Some MPs have no shame and the one pictured certainly fits the bill. As well as his blatant attempt to have taxpayers cough up for his luxurious lifestyle Gerald Kaufman fell to a new low by insulting the suffers of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. As many of you will know this is a very distressing condition and seriously inhibits lives.

Sir (can you believe) Kaufman, on a parliamentary claim form, stated he had to buy a £220 pair of Waterford grapefuit bowls because he suffers from OCD. His cleaner had smashed one of his existing crystal bowls, so he felt compelled to get two more exactly the same - one for him and one for "any guests."

"Because I've got this self-diagnosed OCD, I do things according to rules I've created," he said, explaining that he must have the same breakfast whether in London or Manchester: half a grapefruit, a bowl of muesli with semi-skimmed milk and a cup of coffee with a Rich Tea biscuit. "You may think I oughtn't to have a Waterford grapefruit dish," says the Gorton MP, "but I do. And I ate out of it today."

I have no objection whatsoever to Sir Gerald having Waterford grapefruit dishes, indeed he can have a dozen if he wishes as long as he pays for them out of his own personal finances. But to expect the taxpayer to pay for his crystal bowls looks far more like OCG (Obsessional Compulsive Greed) rather than any form of OCD.

He should be ashamed of insulting suffers of OCD in this manner and if he had any conscience he would contact the OCD society and apologise. He won't of course. His life has been spent for too long within a labour party which has lost its sense of common decency.

If ever there was an MP who was a serial killer it would have to be him.

Aye Fido, along with Blair and Brown recently of course.

I wonder if his OCD extends to buying duck houses or Cartier watches? I think the Daily Telegraph should request a doctors report quickly.

I was going to put that in the post SL, but because the fees office didn't allow the claim I thought there were far more people deserving of our NHS services than this man.

Of course I'm more or less sure he has private health care.

I seem to recall that, in the Westminster bars, there were rather more unsavory rumours about Mr Kaufman's proclivities than about his OCD.

I wonder if he claimed compensation for being such an ugly little turd?
I really believe that, as we age, our true self is revealed in our visage, with or without cosmetic surgery. Me, I'm sort of ruggedly ugly?

he really is a scum-sucking piece of lowlife shite isnt he?..his "OCD" is just an excuse for being an troughing hoon..the sad thing is, is that he thinks everyone will believe him...deluded fucknut.

I wonder if Mr Kaufman would care to offer advice to fellow sufferers of OCD who, having been in reasonably paid jobs, and enjoying chrystal dishes, suddenly find themsleves, like so many others, on the dole and living on £60 a week.

In the event of their cleaners, or more probably themselves being a little sloppy with the dishes, what on earth would he suggest....?

Dirty grubby little arse piece.

He should be sacked Billy and disgraced for insulting a section of society which mainly suffers in silence.

I would say he's an a!sehole but I don't use such language.

Oh Brownlie, now do expand. Please.

OldRightie, don't you think it's all these years of eating grapefruit? That would make most people look sour but in his case, it's emphasised.

He's done nothing for this country.

Spot on OB, hit the nail on the head as always.

Tris, he'd run a mile of anyone suffering from OCD approached him. I wouldn't put it past him if he started shouting he was being persecuted for being Jewish too.

His comment was obviously meant in a humorous vein. But it's the same vein as the 'ha ha' helicopter pad joker. The sheer volume of carelessness in many of these claims just shows that they never, ever, ever thought the details would come out. "Be sure your sins will find you out!" (Me being humorous too, of course.)

Indeed Mek but it shows his mentality towards the taxpayers doesn't it. Also to use a disability like OCD is just gross ignorance.

My sins find me out every time, hence my new image of 'sin-free' on rainy days of the week. :)
