This Person Deserves Our Thanks

This is the young woman, Heather Brooke, who should be receiving our thanks for bringing the scandal of MPs' expenses to our attention.

For years she has worked tirelessly, using the Freedom of Information Act, in a battle to uncover the excesses of MPs.  The Speaker fought her all the way to the High Court in an attempt to hide information, but this backfired when the Court's decision went in favour of Miss Brooke.

Visit her website and read her efforts in this one woman struggle.  I wish her all the best for the future and may she find work which pays enough for her to live without financial worries - she's certainly worth a good salary. Hopefully she decides to stay in the UK as we need journalists of her quality.

Heather Brooke and Joanna Lumley should be made Dames in the next Honours List.

John do you honestly believe that any Westminster politician would be human enough to do that? I very much doubt it but I'd like to be proved wrong.

SR,

The sentiments are shared but it's another Union Ribbon to pin on one's chest - handed out by corrupt public servants.

I think they'd both have too much dignity to accept a bribe.

But I may be wrong!

Sorry CD but I would take a gong if offered. It would bring me a necessary security in my old age.

She needs to be careful.
Dont go for walks near any wooded areas.
We know what happens to people when they expose government lies.

Maybe she ought to go back to the States CD, but I doubt if she'd be any safer there.

Ah she's the rather attractive redhead who was on Channel 4 t'other night there. Great gal.

Might I suggest that those of a delicate nature do not do a google image search on Ms Brooke, as she unfortunately shares her name with an artiste whose skill set is better suited to the cast of Watergate...

She looks a bit like that journalist who was in House of Cards who knew too much and came to a sticky end. If Gordon invites her up on the roof .....!

I'm sure she's got enough sense never to be alone in the company of Gordon Brown Brownlie :)
