Alex Salmond has been in London this week and as well as contributing to the Budget debate he has made the most of his time giving a series of interviews. Somehow he managed to persuade the Daily Politics today that he was worth half an hour and a reasonable programme it was too.
However, it's his opinion on MPs expenses that surely has impressed the rest of the UK. There's a tried and tested solution to the problem and an cheap, easy solution he says. Copy the Scottish parliament MSP expenses system when they are published every 3 months, thereby making them tranparent, plus a receipt has to be produced for anything before a claim can be made, not just items over £25 as exists for MPs.
The Scottish parliament expenses system has certainly stopped any greedy thoughts in their tracks as MSPs know the public see how wisely their money has been spent.
Will Westminster adopt it? Never. Why? Because Alex Salmond suggested it and we all know labour has a consuming hatred of anything remotely related to the SNP and their proposals. Maybe my English, Irish and Welsh readers may like to see how the MSP expense system works so have a look here.
