Tom Harris is a Scottish labour MP and he is perhaps best known as a blogger and good pal of Iain Dale. Mr Harris has posted about the Gurkha vote in Westminster yesterday. I've had a look and don't see one word which explains why he voted with the government.
Update 10.45am : Tom Harris has now apologised for his previous post with the explanation that he was in shock. What he doesn't say is if he was in shock because he voted the wrong way or because the government lost. You decide.

To be fair, he has also proved himself to be more honest than most of his mob with this apology, which is pretty unusual from any MP (or any blogger).
I knew you would react. However, you have just given the man publicity!
Maybe Howard, but I didn't give him a link. This type of publicity won't do him a bit of good. Notice he's now posted an 'apology'.
Just got that Furious. Still no reason given why he voted as he did though and I think it's very poor his excuse of 'shock'.
His reputation that he was one of the few 'decent' labour MPs has taken a big dent.
Furious I should have said let's face it, the comments on his post were mainly from his staunchest supports (with the exception of Howard of course) and he must have realised how he'd boobed. After all, when he gets booted out he'll be looking for a blogging job don't you think and he can't afford to upset the masses.
Subrosa, will that be his last post on his blog. We live in hope.
In truth had probably had a few last night and has now sobered up. Poor man.
Howard, I sympathise if he'd had a few and written a bad article if he was like you and me but he's not. He uses his blog in a semi-professional way with particular emphasis on the fact he's an MP.
Are all women of my age so unforgiving? ;)
No' have as big a dent as Ian Gray's reputation Rab.
Mum used to say if you done it say sorry and and i will forgive.
so i'd say sorry but i did do it.
whereupon Mum would whack me..
and id say but i said sorry she would say and i forgive you but you still shouldn't of done it.
Mine too Niko and if she didn't like the reason I did whatever it was then I got another thick ear.
Shocked at the power of bloggers!
I never thought of that OR, it could well be!
Subrosa,
He is a cock and hopefully they'll all be voted out. I've never voted Labour and never will, saw what they were upto when I wasa child in the 70s and looks like nothings changed just the label.
SCUM.
CD
Tom Harris will never rebel because he hopes to be made a junior minister again. He is probably deluded in thinking there is any chance of that - but he is even more deluded in thinking that there is any chance at all of Labour being re-elected.
The whole Gurkha saga is utterly astonishing. I cannot begin to imagine what the Government or Labour whips were thinking of. It shows you the extent to which they have become completely isolated from public opinion. Once a Government reaches that state there is no way back.
nice vdo subrosa...thank you for sharing.......
I am afraid Tom Harris no longer enjoys my support (not that I would ever have voted for him)
http://wrinkledweasel.blogspot.com/2009/04/tom-harris-has-lost-my-support.html
He failed to account for his miserable toadying over the Gurkha affair and then in a hissy fit, turned on Dave and Cleggy.
As others have said, his "reasons" for voting with the Government were thin and as I said, it amounts to him propping up a stinking rotten administration for the sake of it, and presumably his own skin.
I left this on his blog and proud to have done so.
Is there one honest man left in this gang of political thugs?
Silly me
Dear Mr Harris,
I have read you apology and then the offending piece.
I note that you did not vote against the Government and that you did not apologise for not doing do, but for what you said about the Clegg-Cameron association against your party.
By all accounts you are one of the more decent faces of the Scottish Labour group. So “decent” that neither you nor the ususal faceless “suspects” voted against the Government’s position.
When we look back in a few years, this is one vote and issue that will come to have defined the Brown Government, its hypocricy and kant, its self dispensed largesse and lack of personal morality.
Gordon Brown’s famous “moral compass”, the Parliamentary side of my arse it exists.
His bilious photo ops at Auschwitz really was the pits for me.
Your Great Leader has the unerring knack of launching a phrase or two that swiftly returns to bite him.
The “crucible of terror” is better morphed to describe Brown’s and by association, your crucible of corruption.
Corruption of a moral and self rewarding financial type at Westminster that is a real crucible; a Crucible of Corruption.
I hope that this corrupt mutation of a once great and good political movement is consigned to the cesspit of history by the voter as soon as we get the chance.
I hope you, and your brothers in slease, all lose your parliamentary seats as the Labour Party disappears into the history books.
What a legacy you will leave, what a betrayal of a great political legacy that you just pissed onto a wall.
In the name of God, do not stay another minute, just go and let us rebuild our lives.
Hopi sen over at a blog from the back room saying
My favourite example? Truman’s victory in ‘48
I mean How bad is that?
My post has been erased from Tom Harris' blog, as has Wrinkled Weasels'
Wonder how the an sleeps at night?
Richly?
Billy, you commented very much along the lines I would have done, but of course he would have deleted it. Well don.
Thanks for the link WW, I will have a look.
Oh FC, did either of you really think he wouldn't delete your posts? Come on now gentlemen! Tom Harris blogs to gain the popularity for being the 'good guy' within labour. Sadly he doesn't meet the criteria in the least. He's like the rest and I agree with Indy on this, he's looking after himself, sod his electorate.
