It's not my intention to bore you by writing about postal voting again, but I would like to recommend a blog I came across earlier. Bobballs has an very interesting post on the subject. It's left me wondering why Private Eye said what they did. Perhaps there is more to come.
On the subject of voting I strongly feel that electronic counting should be banned. It's far too open to fraud and we can't have that can we.

I've read up on these systems and can honestly say they are foolproof. If you want to steal an election this is the way to go.
I'm not so bothered about electronic counting - it's electronic voting that we need to avoid. So long as votes are cast in the old-fashioned way - by writing on a piece of paper - then there is a solid audit trail in the event of suspected fraud.
Also of concern is the digitised voters roll - in the US the Republicans are suspected of manipulating this so that probable Democrat supporters (e.g. blacks and hispanics) were purged from the register and therefore prevented from voting.
In the past the SNP has passed resolutions in support of electronic voting - driven, I think, by the complexity of STV counting. They need to back off from this position and face up to manual voting with a role for electronic counting so long as it is subject to some (say 10%) audit.
There's a good summary by Michael Meacher here.
Subrosa,
This should be avoided at all costs, Labour cannot be trusted period.
On another subject, the Royal Marines that have come back from Afghanistan will march through the City of Plymouth on 7 May 09. Not heard anything about Arbroath!

Morning CD. I wrote to the MSP who was doing the shouting in the Courier article and haven't heard a thing. Will give it another few days then start to push harder. No I haven't heard anything more and I've friends over that way.
Morning Vronsky, to be honest anything electronic can be programmed to suit can't it? Really we should be avoiding such systems and I agree with you about the actual voting.
Mind you Vronsky, even paper goes missing. Gets put in binbags and left near rubbish. If we believe that ...
Morning scunnert, are you meaning electronic is fine? Kind of misunderstanding you here I think.
Good morning, folks,
Electronic or paper - they can both be fiddled in there's a will to do so and in light of the revelations of the last fort-night who would bet against it.
subrosa,
It's a lovely morning and the recession will be over by Christmas according to the Chancellor so it must be true - isn't life fine and dandy?
I didn't know you were into yahooing now? When did you start moderating?
Good morning golfer, any holes in one? Good to see you back, I've missed you.
Had to moderate for a while brownlie as that fool scottish unionist started spamming here with his wikipedia cut and paste drivel. Sorry for the inconvenience :)
Greetings, fair lady, how kind. Weather was brilliant but no holes in one. If I can manage a hole in 3 or 4 I'm quite happy with that.
Was that the real SU or the fakie? Is there any difference? Did you get my last e-mail from two years ago, ahem?
Private Eye = MI5?
