Who Runs The World?

Initially I intended to include this link in this week's Take Your Pick but decided it deserves a post of its own.

In the first such analysis ever conducted, Swiss economic researchers have conducted a global network analysis of the most powerful transnational corporations (TNCs).

The results reveal a core of 787 firms with control of 80% of this network and a 'super entity' comprised of 147 corporations that have a controlling interest in 40% of the network's TNCs.

Included is a list of the top 50 control holders.  It should be no surprise to many to learn Barclays PLC is number one.  All the other usual suspects are included with a few unknown to me. The post author, Michael Ricciardi, answers questions in the comments which are well worth a read.

A British company at number 1. That surely should be something of which to be proud.

Come to think of it, I'd rather this country was run by Barclays than any of the present politicians.
I wonder how many staff (civil servants) they would need compared with what we have now?

It's Barclays International who are top Joe and I believe they're registered in many countries.

This is incredibly interesting.

Barclays? I used to have a credit card with them years ago.

I bilked them, they seem to be doing ok though so I don't feel to bad.

;-)

I had a very small account with them too pa_broon, in the hope that if I needed a loan they'd offer me one. Didn't need the loan but I'm sure I left £15 or so in that account.
