One Year On

Two years ago today this blog arrived in the blogosphere and it's thanks to all of you who read it that it's still here.

As I've said before there were a few reasons why I started blogging.  One was to remind people of the service our armed forces quietly and professionally contribute to our country in spite of our political leaders who use them for their own political gain.

Another reason was I saw little conversation between most bloggers and their readers.  Taking the trouble to comment on a blog post is a compliment to the blogger but if it's not acknowledged then commenters think they're talking to thin air.  I decided in this blog that I would make the effort to recognise the efforts of my commenters and in the past year or so I notice many other bloggers have followed suit.  A far cry from the days when this blog was labelled a 'chat room' because it had stimulating discussion.

May I thank each and every one of you who takes the trouble to read what I write and also my guest contributers who provide an excellent level of intellectual opinion.  It's wasn't my intention to write lengthy essays here as there are plenty excellent blogs that do just that.  However, today I have the privilege of publishing an essay (in two parts) from my friend John Souter.  His writing always stimulates and provokes discussion so I hope you enjoy it.  The first part will be published around 9am with the second around teatime.

Again I thank you all for your support during the past 12 months. You are my motivation, you provide many of the post ideas and without your patronage this tiny part of the blogosphere wouldn't exist.

More power to your elbow Madam, the best Scottish blog of all in my opinion, always fair, always balanced, and always beautifully written.

Congratulations SR!

One of the best blogs this side of the pond and certainly one of my favourites.

Thanks Clarinda. Bottoms up and feet on the ground. Treacherous underfoot today. Take care.

I think I must have been one of your first readers. As I've said previously, your blog is part of my required daily reading. Lang may yer lum reek!

Happy Birthday dear blogger and more power to your finger tips. Keep taking the carrots for the eyes and the cod liver oil for the brain and we'll have many years of good stuff from you!

PS plus the occasional dram of your choice of course.

I'm fairly new although knew of Subrosa on the old Herald Comments sites.

This is a great blog site and I'm astonished at the range of issues you cover R. You're just amazing. There is real quality here but there is also courtesy towards those who join in. An unbeatable combination.

All the best Subrosa - I might disagree with you on Europe & global warming but I respect your opinion & your blog is one of the first I turn to when I get home from work.

Thanks Sheila. :)

Thank you Jock. You really do deserve a prize for tenacity. :) All joking apart, I appreciate your comments.

Dram, how did you know my latest fad is carrots? I've discovered 'dirty carrots' in a farm shop and the flavour is like carrots were years ago. Mind you, I'm not going to overdo them. Some newspaper article had a medic saying you looked a 'healthy yellow' from eating them. I always associate jaundice with yellow.

Thanks for your best wishes.

Jings Jo, it's a long time ago since the Herald had good conversation isn't it?

Auch I don't do much in depth Jo hence my ability to cover a range. I write about the subjects which interested me in the hope readers will use the links and explore further in they wish.

Thanks wisnaeme. Much appreciated.

Thanks Aangirfan. I've survived. Not so long ago I could have given up, having had an assassination attempt from another Scottish blog, but my readers and fellow bloggers made me realise we've to ignore those who don't provide a contact address because they want to act out their bitterness publicly.

Tartan Seer, I don't expect everyone to agree with me. That would be boring wouldn't it? What I right is the view of someone who has worked for 40+ years. My views have changed over the years and I am more objective I hope as I'm aged.

Lovely compliment. Thanks.
