Whose Oil, Whose Air Force?

A Puzzle For This Unionist!

It appears their is outrage, anxiety and trepidation at the probable closure of Lossiemouth up there in the beautiful heart of Scotland. Whilst that is taken, in protest, onto the streets, the most abhorrent Scot who ever lived makes a rare visit to his part time office to beg for carrier work to help bolster his own sinecure. Now I am a staunch Unionist and feel all UK citizens have been pillaged by the elite who have seen fit to squander our oil riches mainly for the socialist social engineering failures of the the last and early this century.
Now call me slow but our armed forces have remained a beacon, in the main, to us all ever since the second world war. They fight and live side by side believing in a loyalty to each other and to their United Kingdom. They have successfully and at some expensive cost, protected our offshore industry and ensured that the Bilderberger playthings that are our politicians, have had the opportunity to urinate these riches up the wall of the EU edifices in the cost and waste of membership.
Without that protection we would be even worse off than we are.
So I am at a loss as to why, if the North Sea riches belong to Scotland, why the Royal Air Force should not therefore be "repatriated" to England. After all, if Scotland declared war on England we would need them down South wouldn't we?
This tongue in cheek is Oldrightie's, not the fragrant owner of this excellent blog. I need to reiterate this in order that any incoming ordnance seeks the correct target!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not wishing to be picky here but I think you mean 'Whose oil.......

And closer to Afghanistan.

But the flaw in your argument Oldrightie, is Scotland has contributed to the costs of these doubtful assets why should it relinquish all claim on them?

And, while I agree with some of the sentiments you have expressed, I have to ask from whom have they protected us?

Oh OR, 'your' RAF. Don't my taxes pay for some of it and other sections of the UK military?

It's quite unfortunate, as you will know as a flyer yourself, that Lossiemouth has the best exercise areas in the whole of the UK. But you, being a unionist, would prefer the UK RAF to have to do 2 hours extra flying to reach such an area where they can learn and hone their skills.

I'm pleased to hear this is tongue in cheek otherwise I would have been less than polite, although I know where you're coming from. The answer is an independent Scotland could organise their own defence system. :)

As Cato says, not wishing to be picky.....

"It appears their is outrage...."

"Their" and "there"???

Apols SR, but it is so rare that we get the chance.......!

Oldrightie's fault or not!

Could it be that after England goes home and takes their toys with them ,we can lock the gate at the border so they can't get back in again? :-)
Could be one way to get independence!

A question for you OR.

What about all these Russian Tu160 Blackjacks with both nuclear and electronic countermeasure capability, that so enjoy invading UK airspace, just to wind up our defences It is only the rapid response jets at Scottish airbases that head them off and escort them out of our airspace.
Without the ability of the RAF to react from their Scottish bases, the Russians would be over the home counties before you could blink – and who insists that this does not ever happen - not the British government – no, it’s the Americans.

The rapid response RAF squadrons based in Scotland are America’s long-stop, not only do the RAF keep the annoying and ageing cold war enemy away from our airspace and prevent them from being the ‘spy in the sky’, but the Scottish bases are ideally situated to intercept any mid-Atlantic terrorist threat on a commercial airliner bound for the USA.

So, whatever you may think that the English might want, or even deserve - forget it – it is the Pentagon that calls the tune.

And as Subrosa has mentioned, only Scotland can provide the required terrain for low level fast jet flight training. The Mach Loop in Wales is but the nursery slopes by comparison.

Finally, as you appear to think that the RAF is a purely ‘English’ outfit can I suggest you read a little about 602 and 603 Squadrons, to name but two.

Subrosa, I hope you do not mind me making the following post which is a copy of one I have made on Taking Liberties - it is off topic, but interesting...

""Simon,

I hope that you do not mind me using this thread to issue a plea for help. I’ll be as quick as poss.
In these pages (I think), some 3 months ago, someone mentioned that the BMJ had started a blog asking for new words with which to attack Big Tobacco. I had a look at this blog.
I decided to have some fun, and submitted a list of really horrible words (like diarrhoea). Needless to say, my contribution was not published.
Being up for a challenge, I decided to make several comments which seemed reasonable, but were in fact rather over the top. Clearly, tongue in cheek if one read between the lines. I noticed Pat Nurse had a go there too.

Believe it or not, they have accepted one of my ideas as one of the best six!!!! They have now published it to be voted upon, and, I suppose, I might just win the prize (a subscription to the Tobacco Control journal)!

Here is the URL for the original BMJ blog:

http://blogs.bmj.com/tc/2010/07/30/word-wars-and-tobacco-control/comment-page-1/#comment-70

And the new blog for voting:

http://blogs.bmj.com/tc/2010/10/27/word-wars-and-tobacco-control-choose-the-winner/

DP has made a comment on that blog.

My problem now is-

What would happen if I won??? Should we try to help my comment to win so that I can disown the whole thing in due course? So far there have been 111 votes. If one votes, one is taken to a page which shows the breakdown of votes to date. Mine has 17% so far; the leader has 40%. The leader wants newspapers etc to stop using the word 'smoker' because it implies 'a right'.

Anybody got any ideas? Oh, my name is James Watson, so it is easy to work out which comments are mine. (One of my comments has the first letter of each sentence spelling out the word ‘propaganda’ – which amused me and has not been noticed).

I hope that Rollo Tommasi does not see this, but I doubt that he would be interested in Forest Eireann.

I am going to copy this post to others.......""

CATO,sorted. WfW, "and to their United Kingdom" possessive pronoun?
In this case, correct.

The thrust of my post was missed. Read carefully, (not what we bloggers do well!)I am a Unionist so where the bases or the oil happens to be is not relevant!

The fact that these new solar panels for homes are more efficient than older versions is important for most homeowners for several reasons.

Rosie, you had me worried there for a second with the 'staunch Unionist' bit. Of course on independence, Scotland will expect 8.4% of all Britain's assets including all artwork, buildings, armed forces and our share in the Falkland's oil. We will of course pay our 8.4% of the national debt out of our receipts.

DL, I didn't write this post. It was the charming Unionist Oldrightie who is responsible.
