Can Someone Enlighten Me Please

I've been rather confused the past couple of days. Nothing unusual some of my regular readers may think and I can't condemn them, but I should think many would be confused with these two headlines this week.

First there is this report that Gordon Brown 'could be the EU's first president', then a day later comes another article 'David Cameron would not oppose Blair becoming first president of the EU'.

Which article is true or are both an attempt to promote their own preference? France's Sarkozy seems to be making more mischief but that's his forte, changing his mind to impress his latest best friend. I strongly feel neither man should be president of the EU and although my reasons are far too numerous to list here, they are possibly in line with the majority of the population.

I can enlighten you, subrosa.

Most politicians are devious, self-serving scum, who are quite prepared to lie, exaggerate and denigrate others to further their own duplicitous ends.

Simple really..

I can't really see Blair in a European role - he'll continue making a fortune in America, I think.

The Blair rumours started while he was PM, too.

I suspect it's just mischief making speculation by the papers and it will be a good European and nobody from the UK who will get the job.

Dear sr,

Off topic (sorry) but never doubt that I love you. Look what I have painstakingly re-typed for you, from the current issue of Private Eye. I seem to remember you expressing concern at the BBC’s appointment of a Muslim as head of Religious Crapology, because I remember unsympathetically commenting that it didn’t seem important to me which particular cultural crapology headed up the BEEB’s Crapology Unit. Anyway, you’ll love this.

--(quote)---
Yet more garlands for Channel 4’s Dispatches documentary Saving Africa’s Witch Children.
Having already been given a Bafta, last week it won a Sandford St Martin award for religious programming and an Amnesty International media award for best documentary. But there was nearly an unseemly row at the Sandford St Martin ceremony, held in Lambeth Palace, when the production team went up to collect the prize and found themselves joined by Aaquil Ahmed, the Muslim who has just been appointed head of religion at the BBC. “What are you doing here?” the cameraman demanded.
A good question. Defending Ahmed’s appointment last month, the BBC issued a statement boasting of his recent record as head of religion at Channel 4, “where he was responsible for commissioning …the Bafta-winning Saving Africa’s Witch Children”. No doubt this is what he told the BBC; but it’s not true.
The film was commissioned by the editor of Dispatches, Kevin Sutcliffe, who then asked Ahmed to look after it. The production company, Oxford Scientific Films, soon began complaining that he was “fucking it up”. Sutcliffe had to sideline Ahmed and bring in – at extra expense – a freelance executive producer, Paul Woolwich, to get the film back on course and see it through to air.
When iit was shortlisted for Bafta, neither C4 nor the production company thought to invite him to the ceremony, given that his involvement had been minimal and none too helpful. The day after it won the award, however, Ahmed’s PA sent an email to Alice Keens-Soper of Oxford Scientific Films, “to tip you off that Aaquil is a little upset that he didn’t get an invite to the awards or mentioned in connection to the film. I know that he won’t mention this to you but I have picked up on his attitude to people talking about the Bafta. Is there any chance of a statuette or something to make him happier? Please keep this to ourselves – I don’t think I am breaking his trust but I know he’s quite taken aback about it.” Despite her implication that she was acting on her own initiative, the message was in fact sent at Ahmed’s instruction.
His colleagues at C4 were embarrassed and appalled. They were even more horrified a few days later when, without consulting them, C4 boss Julian Bellamy sent a letter to the Daily Telegraph celebrating Ahmed’s new appointment. “It’s testimony to the range and quality of Channel 4’s religious output that the BBC has appointed our commissioning editor as head of religious programming, “ he wrote, noting that Ahmed had commissioned “acclaimed documentaries” such as, er, Saving Africa’s Witch Children”.
Bellamy has since apologised to the Dispatches editor for recycling this myth. But to judge by his appearance at Lambeth Palace last week, Ahmed himself remains wholly and shamelessly unabashed. His full title at the BBC is head od religion and ethics. Is there time for a quick refresher course in ethical theory before he finishes his gardening leave?

hi subrosa, I've been hearing for some time that Bliar was being lined up for this position. It wouldn't surprise me if this is a tactic deployed to make Bliar look the better option out of the two men. I agree that neither is deserving

Dear Subrosa,
Mandy, Jimmy and Phony all fancy the historic legacy that this would bring. All three have been mooted by The Franco/German Axis to direct them to pressure we British to roll over and get even more royally screwed by the EU faceless Bilderburgers.
Jim would love to "Lord" it over Phony!

Don't even get me started on this. To be honest, I'd quite like us to have nothing to do with the bloody EU as it currently is . . .so I really don't care which of those two self-serving f***wits becomes President into the E.U.

Blair will get the position - Broon will join the Carlyle Group.

Auch CF yer a man after my own heart with your opinions, so ye are.

subrosa said...

Hi Caron, do you not think so? In some ways I think the Blairs would love the kudos of Europe but perhaps America is a greater pull.

Startled Leafletter said...

Broon & Blair for Europe would be a total joke, neither of them are suitable, but are stupid and think that they are.

Can you believe that Blair has set up a sickening group called "The Tony Blair Faith Foundation". Well, I'm fairly certain this will represent just about every faith, bar Christianity.

Good luck to him.

My dear Vronksy, I've never doubted a man loved me - until the morning :)

Jings Vronsky you're never wong are you, what a quote (plus my sincere appreciation at the efforts you made retyping it. I admire your skills).

A statuette for a bluddy placeman? On yer bike is my most polite response. Of course it was sent by Ahmed, it doesn't take an academic to work that one out.

Do you think a brief email to Bellamy outlining my disapproval if his handling of my licence fee is out of the question?

Thanks so much Vronsky, you could well be one of the few who I believed in the morning. :)

Evening Crybaby, yes I thought Blair was in the top list but have heard nothing for quite a while until these articles.

Pleased you agree with me though. That's four of us against so far!

subrosa said...

Mark that makes 5 against, many thanks.

GV I read your blog every day, you know I do. Is my memory letting me down so badly, in that case I apologise. I suspect though FV that we are of similar thought.

subrosa said...

Yoohoo Spook, I know you think the same as me about all this. Still, I think the SNP should consider withdrawing from the EU and becoming part of the Council of Europe instead.

subrosa said...

TP as I said just there to Spook I'd much prefer Scotland to be part of the Council of Europe like the Scandinavians etc. That's another debate though and I'd be peed off if either of these men were put in charge of the EU because we know their objectives and past history.

subrosa said...

Oh scunnert, how depressing. You surely don't believe that.

There was an online petition some months ago to try to stop Blair getting the job. I signed it, and as I recall it was a Europe wide petition, in 20+ languages. Anyway, it had many thousands of signatures as I recall, from all over Europe.

In any case, qute apart from the fact that both are incompetent barking mad war criminals, I suspect that the President of the EU would probably have to come from a country that was committed to being in the EU, and probably one which used its currency.

The idea that either of these cretins would be suitable is, frankly, mad.

I just looked this up, and it seems that there are several petitions... This is the Europe wide one, I think:

The Carlyle Group eh.

erm, he's already in their thraw.

Meanwhile that Obama chappie has made some serious proposals about curtailing the "freedoms" of the money people, the Hedge fund operators and the private equity carpetbaggers et al.

But in Britain we do things differently, apparently. I see treasure Darling and cabal are opposing the powers that be in Europe to do something similar and curtail the "freedoms" of the Mayfair, hedge fund operators.

Tris you've just reminded me I signed one too about Blair. That was a few months ago. Why on earth they're being touted as presidents I don't know. Mind you, Europe's politicians think they're the elite of the world.

subrosa said...

Aye tris, that's the one I signed. Thanks for the link.

Evening wisnaeme, Brown's been in their pay for years I think.

You understand a lot more than me about the financial speak coming out of Westminster and the US. It's just hot air to me most of it and it takes me quite a while to read the core messages.

Darling's been awfy quiet since he gave Broon the elbow eh? I think his wife has told him to lie low, if she's any sense she would have done.

From the desk of the

"You heard it here first" department

Blair will get the EU Presidency and he has been clicking his heels in the non job of "Champion" of the Palestinian People whilst it was being fixed for him. The Irish ambush of Lisbon was what has been holding it all up.

Damned uppity Oirish!

Brown for the EU Presidency?

No chance, but this is a false but indicative leading trailer for Brown when the time comes, that is to say when he is kicked out by us or Mandelson, to move onto bigger things live Suprnational Quangos.

Could be BITS Bank, The World Bank, The European Bank for Development, who knows yet?

Anywhere with a big salary, a big car and tithed hoose.

Please, let it be with competent professional economists, a padded cell and a great discount rate in Flying Nokias.

You heard it here first.

Oh, and the other hidden part of the deal, the €

We will be in.

subrosa said...

Morning Billy. I feel most privileged to receive such a scoop. My thanks!

Vronsky said...

That either Blair or Brown could be seriously considered for the Europe role is an index of the corruption of that institution. I think Scotland should withdraw, or rather - being democratic about it - post-independence there should be a referendum on EU membership.

As a leftie, it really gets my goat that this issue seems to have been hijacked by the right. One of those internet quizzes that tells you which political party best suits your outlook put me down as BNP - solely based on my attitude to Europe.

For those who agree that the EU is Westminster writ large, but don't want to be associated with Tory, UKIP & BNP Little Englanders, let me recommend Spectrezine, a leftist webzine with a strong anti-EU bias. We are not alone!

subrosa said...

Morning Vronsky, thanks for that link, I've bookmarked it.

I'm against us continuing in the EU after independence as I think withdrawing and becoming a member of the Council of Europe would be far more beneficial to us.
