Joanna Strikes Again and the Gurkha Regiment is Threatened

Having read many accounts of Joanna Lumley's performance at the Commons home affairs select committee, even the most cynical of us must have been impressed.

Not only did she expose the air plucking abilities of the government but she did it with whispering deadliness.  It appears figures to ensure the Gurkhas are given the same status of entry to the UK as commonwealth soldiers vary from £425m - £1.6bn.

Kevin Jones, a junior Defence Minister, said the next Gurkha campaign would be a demand for equal treatment on pensions, which would require a one-off payment of £1 billion and £500 million annually.  Further financial demands could jeopardise the future of the Gurkha regiemtn he said.  "We want to ensure that we can continue to recruit to the brigade of Gurkhas.  If that becomes unjustifiable we will have to balance that against other commitments to other regiments."

Mr Jones I have a message for you.  Do not threaten the British Army or the Gurkhas any more, there has been enough upset with the loss of the Scottish regiments and if you continue to talk in this manner the public will ensure you and your masters pay dearly.

Also Mr Jones, do not mess with Ms Lumley; women of a certain age are ruthless when they're on a mission.

You slimey little weasel.
You or that complete arse crack John Hutton had better get of the shelf and clarify that statement in full.

Does that mean then other areas of the military are actually at risk or is it a threat because your big boss was made to eat humble pie.

Your group has not only presided over an illegal, unjustified and dirty little war, but have systematically destroyed one of the most respected groups of individual this once great country had. And I mean the ENTIRE British Military.
A group with no favour, a group who respected all regardless of motive, a group who blindly did what you asked, to the best of there ability and who were once the envy of the world.
And who have now reduced them to individual who get nothing more than cheap ramp ceremonies for repatriation, abuse whilst on parade whilst trying to at least gain some sort of pride when in their own country.
And god forbid, horror of horrors you send that cretin of a PM on a moral boosting trip to Afghanistan to pep the boys up.
Good god he blindly walks out after PMQ's when he has an official statement on the subject.

And dont give me any crap as 2 30 second flashes on the BBC bias news of returning troops to try to bolster that spoon on a PM shredded reputation does not cut it.

I for 1 hope Ms Lumley and Nick Clegg again shove those ill chosen words up your shiney arse.

You completely miss the point, you completely miss the feeling of the british people on this subject.
Get your CV polished my friend.....your gonna need it.
Ok time to lie down in a dark room.

TP I remember years ago a colleague of mine saying my whispers were deadly so that's what brought it to mind. Glad you like it.

Nicely blogged SR, great supporting post L of the F, I support that wholeheartedly.

I've had enough of these slimey belly crawling fuckers that claim to be our Government, I'd love to take to the streets right now and riot.

However, I have responsibilities and will have to eat humble pie and remind myself I agreed to protect the people. Even if they are as big a group of fuckwits as Labour have proven to be - glad I signed the No.10 petition because they just need to go.....how far will they drag this country and the UK down through VANITY?

Grrrrrrrrrr

Great post Rosie the treachery and malevolence of these teflon coated troughing hypocrites who have back stabbed our Forces and the Gurkhas is stomach turning.

It is fine when they vote for more pension and more conditions for them selves but when it comes to honourable brave soldiers asking for more they close ranks and turn their scaly spineless backs on them, God curse their greedy piggy eyes.

Last week we had to endure the spectacle of the grinning maniac Brown once more dropping in on the Afghanistan forces to create another photo call to try and bolster his slithering career and poll ratings, what a loathsome disgusting one eyed Scottish idiot he really is, Clarkson was right. He makes me ashamed to call him a Scot.

Your description of Lumley is classic. I watched her dignified performance with awe. She is a great credit to her father and her proffession, and of course her mother. With friends like her the Gurkhas are indeed blessed. "Whispering deadliness," she could make that her familt motto. She does have an air of quite menace about her, and she looks as if she could follow it through. Must have been her time with Steed that taught her. Ahh those legs encased in patent leather......sorry.

Your other post on John Reid reinforced what I have just said. The man is a typical West of Scotland Labour hog who kicked and bullied his way to a top job like his Orange Order bully boy cohort Ingram. Now they are cashing in by trousering consultancy money for firms who want government contracts, eeeugh.

I think my blogging days are coming to an end as I find myself being distracted and angered to much by all this sleaze and corruption. I know that there are many very capable bloggers like your good self and AMW who will keep the bright light of truth shining into their dark little corners. My Landie needs me more.

Subrosa, you are so correct about Ms. Lumley, looking at the picture of her brandishing the khukuri- I for one would hate to take a broken pay packet home to her.

subrosa,

The more we hear from these people the more convinced I am that they've pressed the self-destruct button. Thank goodness they don't have access to the nuclear "button" or do they?

Oh KW that's sad to hear you're needing to stop blogging but I understand we all must prioritise, Please remember where I am if you want to let off steam. Radios and TVs can cause frustration too.

Take good care of yourself. I for one will miss you.

No John, but I'm going over there now to read it. Will let you know what I think.

B Dollop, you wouldn't dream of taking a broken pay packet home to her, the thought wouldn't cross your mind would it. The consequences don't bear thinking about :)

Brownlie I don't think we have a button. We're just the fall guys, you know, the ones who will be hit first.

Spot on, I agree completely.

I'm surprised that Lord Bramall's inadvertent support for the government's position hasn't been spun a bit more. However, Lord Bramall has honourable intentions even if he is somewhat behind the times.

Public outrage is now mobilised in a way it hasn't been for years. I watched the Headley Court planning application debacle closely - this attracted hundreds of letters of support to the council and tens of thousands of signatures to the petition. I also watched the Pun VC campaign unfold - again, tens of thousands of signatures.

It's a tragedy the Scottish Regiments were not saved although the Black Watch were still reported as the Black Watch in the local paper last week, so tradition runs thicker than Tipp-ex. I was at the reception kindly held by Alex Salmond last year in Edinburgh Castle to thank the Save the Scottish Regiments campaigners for their efforts.

My rant is at: http://jess-the-dog.blogspot.com/2009/05/fighting-for-gurkhas.html

Joanna Lumley has been superb throughout this. No posing, no preening, just a genuine desire to help these men who deserve better than the British Government. (Well, we all deserve better than it, but them moreso).

Ms Lumley and the Gurkhas have the public on their side and sooner or later Loser Brown will have to wise up and do the decent thing.

This little oink Kevin Jones seems to be suggesting that we can only continue to have the regiment if we get it on the cheap! Does he have any idea just how completely and utterly out of step that is with public opinion?

The most sickening thing is that when Brown or any of his disgusting little failures of ministers feel the need they hide behind the troops, proving that they know that the public is behind the forces. Do they think that we will feel less for these men because they are not British?

They make me physically sick.

Super rant Jess. You're more up to date with yours. Joanna Lumley said on radio she was expecting movement before the end of the month.

I noticed the Black Watch being mentioned last week.

Well done you for being at the Castle. I never got an invitation, but then again, I wouldn't have expected one as I'm not a member of any party. Last time I was at the Castle was to see the Beating of the Retreat some years ago.
