Hoon Dismissed from NATO

The smiling Geoff Hoon (above) won't be smiling this week.

Apart from being rumbled in the Dispatches programme on Monday and suspended from the Labour party on Tuesday, he was kicked out of his advisory NATO post on Wednesday.

Hoon was one of a group of unpaid experts, led by the former US secretary of state Madeleine Albright, who were drawing up a report on the alliance's new strategy for a summit in Lisbon in November.

"It was the British government that nominated Mr Hoon to be one of the group..." said NATO spokesman James Appathural.

"However, given that it is clear the British government no longer supports Mr Hoon's participation, the secretary general has decided to ask Mr Hoon to end his participation in the group of 12."

Gordon Brown is understood to have contacted Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the NATO leader, saying Hoon no longer had his support.

Gordon's now had his revenge for Hoon's Iraq inquiry evidence and his part in the failed coup. Is it likely the PM could have a word with the chair of Boots on behalf of Ms Hewitt?
