State Mandatory Parenting
I’m aware this is yet another post about the SNP’s policy of having a ‘named person’ for every child born in Scotland, but I make no excuses. This policy blatantly ignores the wishes of parents. Whilst there are irresponsible parents in every country in the world, the majority take their responsibilities seriously.
During an evening out with friends the other week, the conversation turned to grandchildren and I mentioned this horrendous policy. Nobody believed that the SNP government would overreact to the need to care for vulnerable children in such a draconian manner. They do believe it now as I provided all the information via the wonder of email and are spreading the word. All said they would never have voted SNP at the General Election if they’d known their grandchildren were being treated as ‘wards of the state’ - an apt description I thought.
Sheila is one of our regular readers and provided the above video along with the one below plus this link. I know many of you don’t live in Scotland but do have connections here, so can I ask you to send your friends/family this post because it’s essential every parent knows about this policy. Thanks.
The following video is lengthy but interesting. There are few people who take the trouble to look behind the closed doors in the Scottish Government, so credit to UK Column News for examining Holyrood in detail and to David Scott’s excellent analysis of the ‘Scottish System’ of government.

Thinking back to Sunday lunch, there were round the family table six adults and one infant.
Of the adults, four were graduates, another a company director and between all, during our working lives, we generated, then and now, employment for approximately 150 people and with that all the responsibilities employment regulations bring.
However …
The Scottish Government has deemed that not one of the above adults is sufficiently responsible to ‘Get It right’ for the infant above – my granddaughter.
If and when things go wrong in child care as they occasionally do, I do not question government’s duty to intervene.
But it is a narrow line government must tread, for where there is a stable balanced family any such intervention can only be translated as unacceptable interference.
There is a sense of irony, in that the SNP was adamant 16-year olds were responsible-enough to vote, yet not one of their electorate is sufficiently responsible to look after their own progeny.
The policy will however keep hundreds of thousands off the unemployment register; and, Scotland's GNP will nosedive 'cos not one will be 'productive'.
Surely, it would be more practical & cost-effective to mandate that prospective breeders had to pass a child-rearing test before being granted a licence to procreate?
[Unsure whether /sarc is applicable, or, necessary.]
@Joe - LOL – The mind boggles as to what might constitute a suitable ‘test’ – would it be a written one, an oral one or even a practical one – and as for any qualification, would it be a Certificate in Procreation and what would constitute a pass mark?
Apologies if this appears twice...
Thanks for returning to this.
David and Brian make it perfectly clear that the "Scottish System" is not just about Scotland. The same point was made on this blog a wee while back:

A couple of quotes from David:
"So what we're seeing here is the Named Person scheme - which we thought was one of the worst and most totalitarian pieces of legislation ever written in English - is in fact only one part of a much wider agenda that goes to every corner of government - local and national in Scotland - and deals with everybody in the same mindset."
"We're not the customers - we're the products."
Please take the time to watch these and circulate.
Joe Public and JRB.....Have you seen Lanarkshire's "parental capacity to provide wellbeing" assessments?

"The mind boggles as to what might constitute a suitable ‘test’ – would it be a written one, an oral one .....and as for any qualification....... what would constitute a pass mark?"
Many of the electorate wondered those very same things about those who offered themselves as prospective MPs in order to push this contentious policy.
Looking at Scotland from down here, it seems that it is well on the way to becoming a one party dictatorship, certainly not a place where I would want to live.
The SNP seems to have more than its fair share of fanatics amongst its supporters and reports in the press about threats against those who are publicly against the SNP make one wonder what is happening and how things will end. How long before we have a Scottish Youth Movement, with parents who don't allow their children to join being declared to be unfit?
It's in the pipeline English Pensioner:

You got what you all voted for. You voted for narcisstic, interfering socialists and you got them.
Firstly, apologies for not responding to these comments last week.
It is unacceptable JRB and it changes the whole structure of the family. Surely that structure has been changed enough in the past decade or so.
That’s another good point Joe Public. We have umpteen agencies who purport to protect children yet another will be created at vast expense. How much more can taxpayers take? No wonder Ms Sturgeon doesn’t want full fiscal autonomy.
Many thanks for your contribution Sheila.
Do hope you saw Sheila’s link EP.
The Scottish Parliament elections will be most interesting next year. I hope the SNP do not receive a majority as it’s essential these destructive policies are thoroughly examined. Some would say the Scottish Parliament has committees, but most committees are headed by an SNP MSP.
Thank you Alice.
You don’t know how I voted John M and why I voted as I did. The SNP gained the votes of many lifetime Labour voters - hence the result. They also received votes from LidDem voters who were disillusioned with Nick Clegg’s dishonourable behaviour regarding his previous election pledges.
