More Death In Afghanistan

Yet another member of HM Forces is dead.

He died yesterday, in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, as a result of wounds sustained whilst on duty in Lashkar Gah district of Helmand Province on Monday.

The soldier served with the 1st Battalion The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment and is the 440th member of UK service personnel to have lost his life in this horrific war.

My thought go to his next of kin who must have suffered such emotions such they heard he had been wounded. It's very possible they thought he would pull through once he arrived alive in the UK but sadly that wasn't the reality.

Another horror of war which must not be forgotten.

As I said in my own blog, I just wonder how long it will be before we start getting British casualties in Mali. We are using RAF troop carriers and there are already RAF ground crew temporarily based there. How long before there is an attack on them, or the need to put in troops to defend them.
An airfield is one of the most difficult facilities to defend due to its large perimeter. At one time the solution was land mines, but as they have been banned (for us, but not our enemies when we call them IEDs), the simple task of guarding an airfield will take several hundred troops. And so the mission grows.

Naturally, our initial response is to proffer our condolences to the family and friends of this soldier.

But can I suggest, Subrosa, that you generate for your blog a simple template for future posts that announces the death of yet another serviceman. You can fill in the details of name, rank and regiment as appropriate.

For as EP rightly says Saharan Africa may well be our next conflict zone, and we are already seeing the situation being talked-up by hawkish politicians and the early stages of mission creep.

Subs,

Thes guys VOLUNTEER to go and kill little brown people.

They do it by choice.

They do it for money.

They take their chances.

I went to sea - I could have drowned.

Forget them they are killers.

@ Highland Cooncil You need help

There are several agencies in the Highlands, if that is where you are, that will offer just such help

But whatever you choose verbal abuse solves nothing.

I haven't heard anything substantial yet EP but you're right, it won't be long.

Aye, oil companies expect the military to pick up their employees from these desert areas and that's very risky.

JRB, I wish I knew how to do that because I would. Will have a look around and see if there's some advice on it.

HC, I assume you think all public servants are just that. Oh you can include the medical profession too as they would qualify under your definition.

Thank goodness there are few in this country with your opinion. Our safety would be highly compromised.

HC, that's lies. Look back to all my posts on the subject.

I find some of your remarks offensive but I will not delete your comment as I think other readers would be interested to know what type of person you are.
