Sir Patrick Moore 1923 - 2012

One of my first recollections of Sir Patrick Moore was back in the late 50s when he presented The Sky At Night. Hi accelerated speech intrigued me and his monocled eye led me to assume he was extraordinarily rich.

He mesmerised me, so much so that my parents bought me his book Guide To The Moon, one Christmas. I still have it.

He had a rare ability to convey information with enthusiasm to the young and hold their attention.  Maybe this was due to being self-taught rather than a product of any university, who knows.

He enriched my life from a young age and my interest in the night sky has never waned.  For that I offer my sincere thanks.

A remarkable man,he taught many people about the wonders of the Universe. His programs were always full of interest and often thought provoking in the extreme. There are not many with the abilities he had to entertain and teach at the same time.
Wonder if any of the programs will be repeated in the future? R.I.P.

I'd like to think they would be Apogee because they're as relevant today in encouraging youngsters to be interested in the skies.

I don't think he ever really smiled and yet he was a most likeable man. He was one of those who pushed me towards science as a career, until the modern non-science pushed me away.

You're right Leggy, I can't remember ever seeing him smile. Perhaps it was the monocle.

His style of delivery of information was what hooked me.
