Another Attempt To Weaken My Identity

How often these days do we hear of grossly overpaid bureaucrats deciding some action didn't fit their pre-planned agenda?

The usual reason is "We had a complaint."  One complaint is enough for children to be removed from their homes if the Common Purpose indoctrinated civil servants feel their targets may be slightly short of the mark.  Never do we hear about any investigation into a complainant because, of course, such details aren't of 'public interest'.

In Aberdeen an angry fire fighter has blown the whistle on the latest action of his superiors at the Grampian Fire and Rescue Service.  He branded their behaviour as 'offensive' and it is.  His highly paid bosses had received two complaints about the saltire being projected on the grill of the new fire engines.  It's understood the complaints centred round the Saltire's link to the SNP and the complainants' fears that the flag could be viewed as a sign of support for Scottish independence.

The firemen were told to remove the Saltire logo immediately.

The new engines, which cost just over £200,00 each were given the Saltire logo in advance of Scotland's eight fire brigades being merged into one unitary authority next spring.

I too am angry and not because of a logo on a fire engine, although I think they look rather dignified with the national flag tastefully introduced on the vehicle's radiator grill.  My anger is with these petty, introverted individuals whose lives appear dedicated to defiling our national flag and thereby weakening the Scottish identity.

The SNP has never claimed the Saltire as their own, but as they are the only UK political party which does not make representation in any other countries bar Scotland, the only flag they can use is the Saltire.

My identity is of great value to me and I'm proud to be a Scot. The GFRS's actions have undermined the Scottish identity and thereby diluted mine.  But such people will never remove my pride in my nation as there always comes a time when enough's enough. The Scottish government should investigate this incident and find out who gave the order for the engines to be decorated with the Saltire logo in the first place.

The fire service is supposedly amalgamating to save money. Taxpayers money was used to adorn the vehicle and again to have the embellishment removed.  Surely the public deserve a proper explanation for such unnecessary expense. The names of the complainers wouldn't go amiss either, but they will be protected.

We English have been suffering this type of facism for years. Being told that the Cross of St George is offensive, racist and god knows what else. Firemen were told they could not fly it and taxi drivers were told to take the COSG down during the world cup. People have even been told to stop flying the English flag on their own houses!

The BNP like to use the St George's Cross in England (in spite of claiming to be "British" and using the Union flag) and now anyone who flies it is assumed by many to be BNP supporters and racist.
But I still fly it when appropriate, although my wife did insist that I removed the sticker with the flag from our car before we had a holiday in Scotland.
Never mind, our parish church flies it the whole time, strictly it should have the diocesan coat of arms in the upper quarter, but I'm told that is too expensive!

Two thoughts.1. Does anyone think they would be told to remove these insignia if they happened to be the flag of the EUSSR? But then I wonder if that flag is already displayed on the vehicles?
2.Can you imagine the outcry if the same thing happened in the United States of America? There they are proud to fly the flag of their country. And do so everywhere!
And a third thought has occurred to me, with the number of times one complaint and officialdom falls over itself to comply, has any of you as citizens ever been lucky enough to wield that power?.Or is the PTB using a "false flag" event to get what they want?
The Saltire is the flag of Scotland. It should be a requirement for it to be displayed on all Government buildings and vehicles in this country.
The flag of a country is above political parties, they, as do the citizens have a right to display their flag proudly. Is someone trying to deny them that right?
Incidents like this "complaint" show why so many people living in Scotland want independence and freedom from petty, controlling stupidities such as this one.

Here is an example of misuse of a National Flag.

The American example is spot on. The Saltire is above politics and silly complaints reacted to by unaccountable appointees.

I'm very partial to the Rampant Lion myself. I don't fly it on my house and it's not stuck on my car.

The Saltire should be on all Scottish Government building and all buildings which are funded by the state or have Scotland or Scottish in the title of the organisation as a minimum.

I'm all for the English to wave their St Georges flags as well. Get them out and fly them high.

Oh well...

Some of us do fly our flag (all year round in my case) and will not be cowed by ludicrous claims of racism.
Some of us are extremelly proud to be English and the continuing denial of our existence by Westminster will eventually be overcome.
Actually you lot could help us no end. Vote yes to independence!

"It's understood ...... the complainants' fears that the flag could be viewed as a sign of support for Scottish independence."

The Senior Manager at the Grampian Fire and Rescue Service should have the courage to tell the complainant(s) they're wrong.

Simples.

If s/he hasn't, they're unfit for the job and should be dismissed. Immediately.

But … but … but …

Sam Smalaidh – ‘Fireman Sam’ to our non Gaelic speakers - only drives around in Jupiter, the big red fire engine.

… or is a red fire engine equally no longer politically correct? (connotations of Labour and socialism)

Isn't the livery of Fire Engines, like Ambulances, dictated by our Supreme Government in Brussels?

The Lion Rampant is the 'Royal' flag of Scotland and it is actually illegal for a pleb to fly it, (unless you're First Minister of course).

Rosie,
Surely the only consideration in this matter should be road safety: do the blue triangles enhance visibility in all conditions and are they a distraction to drivers in their rear view mirrors? By all means have a flag or a badge on the side of the apparatus, but wouldn't FIRE or an extension of the yellow stripe across the front been more appropriate? As for white fire engines, excellent for fires on grouse moors, but red or yellow (pioneered in Coventry)would permit speedier recognition and appropriate action by other drivers.

Oops, yes grille Rightwinggit. Will amend. I too think they look good.

Then we both need to stand up to these bullies Independent England.

Auch EP, we all know the BNP didn't 'take over' the Union flag - their opponents only insisted they did that. National flags belong to all countrymen and women.

I see the St George's Cross on cars here and it cheers me to think folk have taken the trouble to show one on their car.

Good thoughts Apogee. Mmm can't see round the whole thing to see if the EU circle is there. Did they contribute towards the cost do you think?

subrosa said...

It is tedioustantrums and it's the politicians who prefer us to think otherwise.

I like the Rampant Lion too but have a Saltire.

subrosa said...

Mine flies all year round too Daggs. In fact I think it needs renewing but I'll leave it until after the winter weather.

subrosa said...

They should Joe but they didn't. Too much of this going on these days. Is it too much Common Purpose in the senior ranks?

subrosa said...

JRB, these are your new fire engines and yes I'm sure Fireman Sam may not like the paint job.

I understand they are to celebrate the mass amalgamation of our fire services so I presume they'll all be this colour in future. All very similar to police and ambulances aren't they?

subrosa said...

Jim, I've had a quick look to see if I can find anything but no. Will look deeper when I have more time.

Ah, so I'd better not fly it. :)

subrosa said...

Now that is an idea Brian and a good one. I didn't notice FIRE wasn't written above the windscreen.

Yes indeed safety comes first and if I saw that in my rear mirror (close up) I may think it an ambulance maybe.

The Cross Of St George was rescued from the BNP by the World Cup a couple of decades ago. When it started to appear on a few council houses and taxis the usual suspects condemned thos as condoning fascism but this had the unintended consequence of encouraging huge numbers of other people, from all classes and income groups, to say Up Yours. Our flag is now flown at every suitable occasion, and sometimes for no reason, far and wide.

Thanks for that information banned. I'm a wee bit out of touch with such things in England having lived back here for some years and only visiting England on occasion.
