Mysterious Sculptures

The above sculpture is made from paper and was left on one of the signing tables in the bookshop of the Edinburgh International Book Festival last August.  The tag read 'To @edbookfest 'A gift' This is for you in support of libraries, books, words, ideas... & festivals xx'.  It includes a teabag filled with cut out letter and the cup on the top has a swirl of words which read 'Nothing beats a nice cup of tea (or coffee) and a really good BOOK'.

A number of wonderful sculptures carved from paper appeared mysteriously around Edinburgh last year. The whole magic story, with accompanying photographs, can be read here. The genius creator is still unknown.

John Byrne, Andy Goldsworthy, David Mach and George Wyllie all have the imagination and artistry to create such artefacts, but their work is usually on a larger scale.
I have the feeling that the creator is female, but haven't an inkling who it might be.

Hamish I think what intrigued me was the skill the artist had in placing their work - without being noticed.

I hope they're not by this man.

I don't think they are do you Brian? Those in Edinburgh were skilled and created with love.
