Canine Care

This is Coco. She is an adorable four month old chocolate labrador puppy and looks the picture of innocence in her own surroundings (where this photo was taken last week).

Coco arrived here for a short holiday yesterday. Having been a dog owner for many years I thought I'd prepared quite thoroughly for her arrival, but within minutes I was proved wrong.  Everything is edible in Coco's world.

Dog sitting is a 24 hour task and each waking minute is compulsory playtime. I'd quite forgotten how time consuming puppies and toddlers were until now, but I'm remembering speedily, believe me.

Blogging may be light and/or more incoherent than usual for a couple of days.

Brilliant Rosa, you have to keep us posted on her.
You lose a dog and think "never again" it hurts too much, then along comes a puppy...

Rosie,
Snap! We're going to be looking after a ten year old Black Lab for a few weeks' holiday. I remember when she was a trainee guide dog, she'd race in after a day's work in Leamington, have a wee in the back garden, bolt down her tea (after sitting down and waiting for two whistles to start), quick nap, then hours of wrestling, tugging and ball chasing. Next morning, after breakfast, she'd be waiting at the front door for her lift back to work. She hasn't changed a bit! (except her muzzle's gone grey) ;o)

There are dogs and puppies then there are Dobermans! Mad doesn't even get close to their adorable eccentricity! God bless them all.

Definitely a dog person here.

I've just taken on a rescue dog of sorts, she belongs to a friend I have in NI. Their toddler/baby got all up in the dogs food while she (the dog, not the toddler) was eating, the result was a youfed baby. (To Youf: its not a bite as such, more a warning woof but directed at what ever needs warned off.)

Anyway, one trip to A&E for the baby and another to Scotland for the dog.

I'm not keen on babies either so we get on famously.

;-)

What's bored Apogee? I'm too exhausted to think. :)

Fit to drop more like.

She's only here for a couple of days Conan then goes back to deepest Engerland. Wonderful company she is though.

Brian, I've a friend who is a guide dog trainer and she's always walking labradors around the town. They've lovely personalities.

Dobermans are loved in this family OR, but Coco's home wouldn't be big enough for one. God bless them all right enough.

Now pa_broon, you made me smile.

We sadly lost our dog just before Christmas. We decided not to get another one until after the New Year as the dog would need to settle into a routine that you don't have over the festive period. It was the first time for about twenty years that there wasn't a dog in the house & I found it incredibly weird & just felt all the time that something was missing.

Have a new one now - he is very bouncy & uses up a lot of my energy but it is great having a proper hoose with a dug again.

Bill, your mention of that place on the Warwick Road brings back the memories. Many years ago I used to help there as a volunteer trainer and assessor :) I used to help take Sunday training classes as an instructor in the Massey Ferguson grounds up by Tile Hill way on the outskirts of Coventry then too. I had a GSD who was a trials champion and used to train with dog handlers from the Prison Warders Association (Long Lartin) and North Staffs Police (Abury Towers). Up and out early in the morning exercising tracking and man work skills on virgin dew covered fields and woods when saner folk were still in bed. Aye, I miss that but when my best pal died of old age, that was that. Never had another. Used to do the rounds of the Trials and Agility meetings too. Raja never failed to get a placing when the late Joe Braddon was in judgement. He used to tell me not to talk to him beforehand. Suspicious lot, doggy folk sometimes :)

It's horrible when you lose a dog Observer. I can sympathise even though it's 8 years now for me. I decided not to get another because I worked away sometimes in the week and it would be unfair to farm one out.

However glad you're a happy dog owner once again. I'm delighted to have this little lass with me for a few days, even though she's ensuring I realise I'm not as fit as I was.

Super story wisnaeme. Aye, doggy folk aren't so easy to pull the wool over. :)

My apologies to Brian for calling him Bill. My lame excuse was that I had just finished a 12 hour shift and I was not as observant as I should have been :)

That's as good an excuse as any wisnaeme and I doubt if Brian will be offended.:)

Hi wisnaeme,
No problem as I ignore all bills!
You can call me anything so long as it's not before 8:00 am ;o)
I really enjoyed reading your interesting comment about dog training in Leamington and Coventry and your dog.
