Scottish Independence Is Being Watched

Good to know, so early in the debate, that international news agencies are paying attention.

And what, SR, is "independence"?

Just 'musing' or 'wittering', you understand?

Joe,

The vile, nasty anti-Scottish sentiment is atrocious in that so-called quality paper. If you had to change the word 'Scottish' for the word 'black' then they would be up in front of the nearest magistrate.

… and of course, ‘Russia Today’ is renown for its totally unbiased level of reporting, free of any political viewpoint or agenda.

JRB Just like the BBC! ;)

Whenever I tune into Russia Today, it feels like a breath of fresh air. They don't give a toss about pandering to the US or UK, unlike the BBC etc.

If you could construct the perfect option for Scottish independence Subrosa...what form would it take?

subrosa said...

No surprises from that source Joe.

Taking responsibility for your own actions WfW. As we do every day. :)

subrosa said...

Oh completely JRB. ;)

They have to pander though Doug. I suppose all media does have masters.

You mean the referendum JJ? I'd say Yes or No.

Gedguy - I know what you mean - and similarly if the Scottish Herald & The Guardian comment section was really an indication of the true attitude of all the people of Scotland, we'd probably sue the entire nation for racial abuse (racial as per the law includes national identity abuse)

But we know that it's not ... as do you in regards to those that comment in the Telegraph, I suspect.

That there is a very large and growing backlash in England is supported not just by that national paper but by other more reputable sources, and there is enough of it to cause your FM to make public his support for an English Parliament.

That might put the fear of god up the Unionists, but I suspect it won't convince the English of the purity of his intent :)

The 'alternative' news stations have their use in the presentation of a different perspective to the bias prevalent in the home grown.

But always remember the bias of the pay cheque underwrites most of what we're told as facts.

Michele,

I have said time and again that I do not support those types of comments from any side of the border, but I would ask you to view again the vast majority of comments from the Scottish side and you will see that they are not anti-English but anti-British government. The problem with some of the posters is that they equate an attack on the British government as an attack on England which, as you very well know, is not the same thing. England is not the Union, it is a constituent part of the Union and if the Scots, who have an independent agenda, want to put their opinion across about the Union then it is only fair that they can do so without their country, Scotland, being dragged through the mud by those Neanderthallic numbskulls that don't even have the decency to check their facts before they put pen to paper. How many times have you read, in the British media about Scotland being subsidised by England? Three points here:
1. Scotland, if you care to check the British governments own figures, has been a net contributor to the treasury for decades,
2. If Scotland was being subsidised, which it isn't, it would be by the British government, not England,
3. Haven't you noticed that even the politicians have stopped saying this after the 'cybernats' started to put out the truth about those figures?
All of this would lead one to the conclusion that someone, or some organisation, is happy to stir up trouble between the Scots and the English.
Therefore, I would be more than happy to present you with a list of anti-Scottish remarks in the media, from posters if you would care to provide a list of anti-English remarks [not anti-British] and I suspect that, even taking into account the difference in population, my list would swamp yours. Any takers?

As James Traynor of the Daily Record blogged in June last year:

"Well count me out. Petty and narrow-minded doesn't begin to describe the mentality of Scotland when it comes to England.
[]
This is the kind of people we are right now, the type who would rather moan and blame everyone else for our problems and thump our chests when the English stumble as though we were somehow responsible.
Maybe one day, if we ever grow up and become a proper country that stops blaming all its ills on its larger, wealthier neighbour, we might gain the credibility we crave in the wider world.".

The absence of English "Anybody but Murray" fans on the former Henman Hill during Wimbledon must be a sign of something.

subrosa said...

Indeed Brian, that must be a sign. In fact Murray seems to have an abundance of fans in the Australian Open - although I doubt if they are all English. :)
