Thanks for putting this up SR.Pity you couldn't resist the jibe against renewable energy. I live in hope that you will come round one day to the recognition that there is no other.May I take the opportunity to wish you a Guid New Year, and the same to all those who have kept me informed, provoked and entertained by their comments.
I'll second Hamish comment.
Hamish, the jibe wasn't against renewable energy. If you think Al Gore does anything for the renewables cause then you have my sympathy. It's been proven over and over again the man's a charlatan.
We have to agree to disagree then Crinkly. All Al Gore has done is make money for Al Gore. He's be found out and is no longer a major player. Have you noticed?
Hope you enjoy a great new year yourself, Rosie. Have a party and throw yer skirt around a bit, eh? :)
Isn't there a huge difference between what our FM is saying and the doom and gloom emanating from Westminster? Why 'doom and gloom' from Westminster? Maybe because that is all they have to offer while they struggle to sort out the financial mess left by labour.Whereas, in Scotland we have a future to look forward to which is riddled with optimism if we get independence. All I can say is keep it up Alex you know that you are right.Have a happy Hogmanay and don't drink too much.
I suspect Crinkly was seconding my final sentiment.I note there was no New Yesar honour for our host for services to blogging.I suspect SR would decline such an offer.
Have you seen how the new 'positive' Labour message has started on Labour Hame? They parody Eck's upbeat message suggesting it's all 'Wha's like us', and everyone but the Scots are rubbish, particularly the English! Will they ever learn?
A good upbeat message SR. Apart from the usual greenie stuff ;)We've still got a long way to go to kill off the global warming myth and associated useless windmills and eco cars etc.I see Professor Stuart Haszeldine of the University of Edinburgh has been honoured with an OBE. Prof Haszeldine's claim to fame is that he brought us carbon capture and storage technology. Or perhaps not.Anyone who thinks that spending billions burying harmless hot air has got to be a nutty professor right enough. If I don't see you tonight while staggering about Dundee then have A Happy New Year to you and all your listeners.31 December 2011 13:32
Thanks for posting this SR. There's no doubt Eck is good at what he does.Al Gore? Dangerous conman who has had a detrimental effect on millions of people throughout the world. There is a place for renewable energy, but only if it is not subsidised to the ridiculous levels currently in place. Nuclear is subsidised? The remove the subsidies for that too and for any other subsidies for energy delivery.A guid new year to one and all and may our differences be our strength.
I will thanks Dick. Party tomorrow instead of tonight. We'll leave the Hogmanay celebrations to the youngsters and then enjoy ourselves while they're recovering. :)A guid New Year to you and your family too Dick.
I think that's why so many people have a certain regard for Alex Salmon Gedguy, including folk from south of the border. His positivity is like a ray of sunshine in all the gloom.Hogmanay will be quiet and I need a clear head for tomorrow, so only a sherry or two tonight. You enjoy yourself too. Hope you've some decent TV programmes organised because it's the usual dreadful schedule I see.
Ah Hamish, ooops. Crinkly will understand - I hope. :)May 2012 be good to you Hamish and yes, I'll third your final sentiment. What would I do with a New Year honour? Would it make me a better blogger? Would I have a 'better class' of friend? Naw. The fact that yourself and more than a thousand others read my writings every day is my best honour.
No I haven't Fourfolksache but I will have to look now you've mentioned it.
I won't be staggering around Dundee or anywhere tonight RM as my plans are to stay indoors. We had 3" of snow yesterday and although it's thawed quite a bit, if it freezes the roads will be dreadful.A Guid New Year to you and all your associates. I take it none are avid AGW supporters? ;)
Well said TT and I hope we can finally achieve a balance regarding windmills. Not enough has been written about what happens when they complete their 15 years of use.May 2012 be good to you and yours.
A Guid Yin tae yirsel SR.No sign of snow near the silvery Tay yet....My friends have the usual ideas about the global warming scam - not bothered or brainwashed believers ;)The windmills will probably just be abandoned. Especially the ones at sea which will rust and be allowed to fall into the sea.14,000 left to rust and decay in California...http://www.freedomsphoenix.com/News/100440-2011-11-30-14-000-windmill-losers.htmI was feeling upbeat for a while there but windmills have made me gloomy again lol
Do you think that Salmond actually originates policies, Subrosa? I don't because I don't think that politicians know very much about anything. They rely upon others advising them (which is why we have smoking bans!). I meant to say that yesterday, but forgot. As regards windmills and other renewables, I personally believe that we simply have not found a way to really exploit atomic energy properly. We must always remember that energy is simply motion. As you know, the motion in the atom is given by E = Mc2. The only problems are the ease with which that energy can be extracted and its safety. It will come one day. Well, I think so, anyway.
Oh...and all the best to you!
I'm with Junican - politicians don't originate policies and if they think they do (as some must surely do at first) they're kidding themselves...Don't get me started on Gore!!!Thanks for this blog Subrosa :)Happy New Year all!
Hi SR.Al Gore is a politician.Says it all.The wind mills are not free , they cost plenty, the infrastructure cost is the same whatever the generator. The efficiency is not as good as coal fired generators. So why are we doing this?Would just like to thank Subrosa for providing a place to air our views of the world in all its facets, thank you for putting up with us.And also to wish you all a Happy New Year when it comes.
And to you RM. There was 3" of global warming here on Friday but it's gone now thankfully.Don't let the thought of turbines knock the wind oot o yer sails. :)Thanks for the link- interesting.
Oh I think they sometimes have the odd idea Junican - speaking from my limited experience when I was an activist. Not all good ideas mind you. :)I'm sure it will come someday but not while I'm around. All the best to you too. :)
I won't mention you know who then Sheila. The very thought of the man angers me.Thank you Sheila. If I didn't have readers like yourself it would be pointless really.
I don't know why we're doing it Apogee, but I hope Junican's view comes to pass.Thank you for the kind compliment and thank you for putting up with me.
Scotland rules, OK.- Aangirfan
It does Aangirfan. More and more Westminster are copying our policies. Don't know if that's complimentary though. :)
on a side note: Baird also invented 3d television at the same time in the 30's, without the need for silly glasses I might add, but for some reason only ever used in hospitals, infact I'm sure if thought about you'll recall seeing something on the tv with doctors gathered around looking at 3d representation of internal organs for the cameras& another aside would be to remind of the actual cost of the materials & sourcing needed for green solutions such as solar & wind, I think they are classed as "rare earth" on the stock marketshave a good new year
I remember being told that at school dognamed blue, but not seeing doctors on TV.The installation materials alone cost exorbitant amounts. All the transportation of that concrete ...
